Happy Wednesday Cherrydale Families,

We’re excited to welcome all Cherrydale families tomorrow, December 11th, for our Title I Family Engagement Lights & Literacy Night, beginning at 4:30 PM! Families will have the opportunity to take home a variety of helpful literacy resources, and we’ll also enjoy readings from several special guest readers throughout the evening.

In conjunction with our Title I festivities, we’ll host our annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5:00 PM. A warm thank-you to Sodexo for providing delicious hot chocolate and to SHS for sharing some talented high school musicians to make the event even more special. The event will conclude at 5:30 PM.

Please remember to dress for the weather, and know that we are truly looking forward to seeing you there!

This Monday, our school had a very special leader at the helm—Christian, who had the privilege of serving as Principal for the Day! Many of you may have spotted him out front bright and early, greeting students with a wave as they arrived. Others heard him over the intercom as he led the entire school in the Pledge of Allegiance and morning announcements.

Throughout the day, Christian experienced firsthand what it’s like to be a Principal. He shadowed Mrs. Firth during lunchtime and interacted with all grade levels.

We were thrilled to have him in this important role—and we think he did an outstanding job!

Every December there is a window of opportunity specifically for kindergarten students to apply for the district’s Highly Capable Program. Any family is welcome to apply. Students who qualify may have advanced academic skills, display an abundance of creativity, or are amazing thinkers. Application forms are found on the district’s website on this page: Highly Capable Program. Applications are due December 19, 2025. Evaluation and testing will be completed in January, 2026. If you have any questions about the program feel free to contact me via Parent Square or email at hengstrom@steilacoom.k12.wa.us.

When your student will be late, leaving early, or absent altogether, please notify the office.

If the Tardy, Early Release or Absence is due to an appointment, please bring a note from the doctor's office.

We would love to have you volunteer, if you are a new parent to the district or first time volunteer, please click on the link to get signed up to volunteer. Please submit your completed application at least two (2) weeks before the expected volunteer service start date. Volunteer status is valid for 2 years.
