Glenwood
This Week's Scouting Report
Thursday, May 14, 2026
Good evening, Glenwood families,
With fewer than 20 days remaining in another great school year, our calendar is certainly full. In addition to continued learning, we have testing, field trips, concerts, Field Day, and many celebrations ahead.
This week alone has been filled with exciting events, including our 5th Grade Career Showcase, 5th Grade Choral Concert and Showcase, our final Woody’s Warehouse of the year, and the 5th Grade 24 Challenge. Tomorrow, our kindergarten students will host their carnival. There is still plenty of fun ahead for our students and staff.
Next up is our Band and Strings Concert. Please be sure to check the calendar below for upcoming events and activities.
Best,
Josh Rehak, Principal
Field Day May 22
Parents/guardians and families are invited to attend our Physical Education Field Day for children in grades 1-5 on Friday May 22nd! Activities will take place beginning approximately 9:10 am and will end around 11:35 am.
We are looking for Glenwood Field Day Volunteers 2026. (You must have your clearances on file with the office.) Please report by 8:30 am to our back playground. Volunteers can pick up their badge at the security office.
All visitors must sign in at the welcome table by the green shed near our loading area. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. Please also remember that we have limited parking on our campus and we encourage you to carpool if possible.
We ask that you ensure that children are equipped with hats or sunglasses and sneakers. Please apply sunscreen at home before arriving at school in the morning. We recommend cotton T-shirts rather than tank tops since there will be less exposure to the sun. Most students try to wear their team color-green or white. Water will be available, but we encourage children to bring their own refillable water bottle. We recommend that all bottles have the students first and last name on the bottle. Please, no sweet drinks since these attract bees!
NOTE: In the event of inclement weather, we will make a call by 7 am and notify all families if there are any schedule changes (For planning purposes, the make up date is in the afternoon Thursday May 28th)
GO GREEN * GO WHITE * GO GLENWOOD!!
Tomorrow: Wear Glenwood GREEN

4th Grade News
4th graders have been busy working on their Geometry unit! We started off by learning how to communicate in geometric terms such as lines, line segments, rays, and types of angles. Then students were introduced to their new measurement tool, the protractor. Here you see some 4th graders working with their protractor to measure angle degrees!
Join the Cereal & Kindness Chain Reaction
The Glenwood Elementary Cereal & Kindness Chain Reaction is rolling right along! We’ve stacked up an amazing 452 FULL boxes of cereal so far! But wait… our dominoes aren’t done falling yet! We still need 948 more boxes to reach our BIG goal!
Help us keep the kindness tumbling by sending in cereal boxes next week. Every box helps feed local families and keeps our chain reaction going strong! Thank you for helping us crunch hunger one box at a time!
Glenwood Book Swap
Are you doing a Spring Cleaning? Do you have lots of gently read children’s books that you no longer use? Consider donating them to Glenwood’s Book Swap! Students will be participating in a book swap later this year and we need books! Please send in any gently used elementary school appropriate books to Glenwood’s library! Volunteers will also be needed to help run the swap. The Book Swap will be held June 1st through 3rd, more info to come soon!

5th Grade News
Our 5th Grade Recognition Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Penncrest High School. We are excited to celebrate our 5th graders as they prepare for this important transition.
Due to the large size of this year’s class, some procedures will look different from past years:
- Students should report to Glenwood at the start of the regular school day.
- Students should dress appropriately for this special occasion.
- Buses will transport Glenwood students from GES to Penncrest High School.
- Students should not report directly to Penncrest High School, as there are logistics and preparations that need to take place prior to the ceremony.
- Parents and guests should report directly to Penncrest High School.
- Doors will open at 10:00 a.m.
- Because of venue capacity, each family may bring up to 6 guests.
- Please know that it is a school day for PHS, so parking is limited. Please carpool if possible.
- Please use the larger parking lot closest to the Van Leer Avenue entrance.
- Enter through the Auditorium doors by the Lions statue
Following the ceremony, all students will be required to board the buses back to Glenwood. Students will not be permitted to be dismissed directly from Penncrest High School. Parents may meet students at Glenwood and officially sign them out from their classroom teacher.
To help streamline dismissal procedures, please complete the Early Dismissal Form - 5th Grade Recognition by Monday, June 8th to proactively collect information for students who will be leaving early that day.
Families will also have the opportunity to visit the 5th grade hallway, which will be decorated by our 5th Grade Committee in honor of our students and their accomplishments.
We look forward to celebrating this milestone together.
5th Grade Clap Out Opportunity
As a final goodbye to their Glenwood chapter, families are cordially invited to attend the 5th Grade Clap Out on Friday, June 12 at 10:00 a.m. Visitors will sign in outside and gather along the main hallway as the classes parade through the building one last time.
We look forward to some great closing activities for our rising 5th graders.
