BACK TO SCHOOL TIPS FOR PARENTS

  • Help your child adjust to earlier bedtimes just to help them ease into new routines. Set a consistent bedtime for your child and stick with it every night. Getting enough sleep is critical for kids to stay healthy and be successful in school. Not getting enough sleep is linked with lower academic achievement, as well as higher rates of absenteeism and tardiness.

  • Have your child turn off electronic devices well before bedtime. Try to have the home as quiet and calm as possible when younger children are trying to fall asleep.

  • Children who eat a nutritious breakfast function better. They do better in school, and have better concentration and more energy. If your child does not have time to eat, send them to school with a grab and go snack like a granola bar.

  • Create an environment that is homework-friendly. Children need a consistent workspace in their bedroom or another part of the home that is quiet, without distractions, and promotes study.

  • Schedule ample time for homework. Build this time into choices about participating in after school activities.

  • Establish a household rule that the TV and other electronic distractions stay off during homework time. Supervise computer and internet use.

Attendance Matters

Every day counts when it comes to student success! Regular school attendance helps students stay connected to learning, build important skills, and keep up with classroom instruction. Families can support success by establishing consistent routines, scheduling appointments outside of school hours when possible, and making attendance a daily priority. When students show up every day, they have more opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed!

How Families Can Partner With Schools

Families play an important role in student success! When families and schools work together, students benefit both academically and socially. Parents and caregivers can partner with their child’s school by maintaining regular communication with teachers, attending school events and parent meetings, supporting learning at home, monitoring attendance and academic progress, and sharing ideas and feedback. By working together, families and schools can create a strong support system that helps every student learn, grow, and succeed!

Title I Annual Meeting Information - Fall 2026

Title I, Part A requires that all schools receiving Title I, Part A funds must bring parents and families together for a parent meeting to inform participating parents about the school's Title I program and their right to be involved. This meeting will be held within the first 45 days of the new school year in GSCS.

Griffin High School asked parents to join us on August 31, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. via Google meet and/or at 5:00 in the GHS Media Center. During the meeting, we shared important information with our families about the purpose of Title I and how these resources help support the academic success of our scholars.

Families received information about the programs and supports that are in place to help scholars remain on track and continue making progress toward graduation. We also reviewed our School Parent and Family Engagement Policy, School-Parent Compact, and information related to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). These documents help explain how our school, families, and scholars can work together to support student achievement.

We also discussed the GSCS instructional frameworks and shared ways that families can remain involved in their scholar’s education both at school and at home. Families learned about upcoming engagement opportunities, ways to participate in school decision-making, volunteer opportunities, and other ways to stay connected with Griffin High School throughout the school year. In addition, we shared information about the resources available to families through our GHS Parent Resource Center and the District Parent Resource Center. These resources are available to provide families with additional information and support as we continue working together to meet the needs of our scholars.

We appreciate all of our families who participated in the Annual Title I Meeting and continue to partner with us throughout the school year. Your involvement and support are important to the success of our scholars.

Together, we can Impact Every Scholar Every Day!
