News from the Learning Center
Students have been exploring books from the Red Clover nominee list. So far, we’ve read Elephant of Sadness, Butterfly of Joy, and Who’s Afraid of the Light?. Currently, we’re diving into Stranded: A Mostly True Story from Iceland, which has sparked curiosity about volcanoes and how they form. Inspired by the story, a group of third graders used their creativity to construct a volcano out of Keva Planks.
If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to contact me.

PTO Update
Last Tuesday we held our March PTO meeting. Here are the meeting minutes: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oKSrqSCr_zgP6XKpop2X-VqjfFcw8bA2iIBJ7r2P1jI/edit?usp=sharing PTO is a place where decisions are made, and planning begins, but it is also a place where questions are answered. In our meeting, Principal Katherine Grykien answered parent questions about the upcoming Hiawatha/Summit merger and the transition of our second and third graders to Fleming next year. If you’ve got questions, please keep an eye out for further communications from our wonderful Hiawatha, Summit and Fleming principals. As always, if there is a question I can answer, or you have a concern, please feel free to email me, Ashley Arcovitch, at hiawathapto@ewsd.org. One week from today, Friday March 21st, is our Enchanted Forest dance! 5:30 to 7PM in the Hiawatha gym. It’s going to be a fun time with a photo booth, dancing and much more! If you signed up to bring a snack or supply on the Sign Up Genius, thank you! Don’t forget that next Tuesday, March 25th is our first Hiawatha Speaker Series event. Garry Scott is the Director of Facilities and District Safety for the Essex Westford School District. If you have ever wondered about what our district is doing to keep students and staff safe, then this is the event for you. It’s free, so please join us, 6 PM. FUNDRAISER ALERT! We’ve got two big fundraisers happening this spring.
