Next week brings the Spring Concert and Silent Auction Thursday evening. If you have any donations for the Auction, please bring them to the office. Friday, the whole school will be hiking up the hill to the Dublin Baseball Field for a whole school kickball game! Please be sure your students have bug repellent (wipes are the best as we can avoid the aerosol), and a hat. I would recommend long sleeves and pants too!
I am hoping you will take some time to complete this survey that will help us plan for next year and beyond. Thank you! DCS Parent Survey
Enjoy this weekend, Nicole

As May came to a close, the 4th and 5th graders' biggest transition was the released of our turtles into the wild. They were released Friday, May 30th by our Harris Center teacher Miss Jamie. The turtles went from hatchings to about the size of a 1 year old turtle in the 8 months in our care. We were able to watch a video of the release. As a class, we are sad to see them go, but encouraged that we met our long term goal of giving them the best possible chance of living in the wild and building the turtles population in New Hampshire.
In 3rd grade math, we are strengthening the concept of equivalent fractions. This is a very meaningful concept as it helps with finding common denominators, comparing and ordering fractions and reducing answers to simplest terms. In 4th grade math, we are working on multiplication patterns as applied to measurement. In 5th grade we are also using measurements to multiply or divide fractions.
Both 4th & 5th graders are wrapping up a timeline unit. 4th graders will soon have a timelines of New Hampshire's History and 5th graders will have one of the major events of the Revolutionary War. This is one of my favorite projects because it blends Social Studies, Math and writing in meaningful ways.
Please note that on the last day of school (6/20) the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders are putting on 2 plays (9:15) and will be part of the End of Year Celebration (10:30). Please do your best to attend these events that the students have worked so hard to prepare. Also, dismissal on 6/20 is at 12:00. It has been such a positive and growth filled year. Thank you all!

The terrific third graders have been busy, busy these past weeks! We hatched eleven super-cute chicks! The anticipation and excitement of watching a chick hatch is priceless. The class enjoys“chick circles” to play with the chicks outside. There is a lot of thought and organic inquiry as the children observe our chicks and the hatching process.
These chicks are well-loved! Thank you to the Budziks, Marcums, and Niemelas for eggs, chick pen, shavings, and warmer/light for our chicken project.
They have worked hard on both their Reading and Math NWEA tests. Testing is over, so we will focus on finishing reading our class book study of Charlotte’s Web and our Narrative Writing piece based on a constellation they created to tell their story.
The children have learned their lines for the class play, “The Potted Princess”. Thank you to all the parents for their dedication to helping the kiddos practice their lines and cues. We started practicing on stage this week, working on blocking and using a loud, clear voice so the audience can hear the story. Please plan to attend our play on June 20th at 9:15.
4th/5th English Language Arts
Due to the NWEA testing, our time together has been short. We have focused back on our book study of Holes, reviewing the characters and wondering how the main character’s past storyline ties into the current storyline. The class concluded their Narrative Writing unit by typing their stories and sharing them with peers for final edits.
The children have learned their lines and are excitedly starting to understand their blocking for our class play,” Pandora’s Box,” that we will be performing on June 20th at 9:15. Please plan on attending. Thank you to Brittney Redler for coming in to work with some of the kiddos individually on their lines.
Please remember to have your child read from a chapter book every evening as their homework!

Even though the year feels like it's winding down after testing, we are pushing forward in grades one and two. The most exciting thing is that we just finished writing and illustrating a book! Last year, my class chose to write a book about Chief Suokko and his dog, Ziti. Without much discussion, this class unanimously decided to write a book for Officer Dalterio. I greatly appreciate our local police, who work hard to establish strong connections with our community. We worked around the smartboard where the students brainstormed ideas for the book, then we collaboratively wrote it the same way. The book is about Officer Dalterio's dog, Felix, who runs away because he wants to be a police dog. Thankfully, the first and second graders help find him. But then Officer Dalterio and Felix work to solve the mystery of stolen cars in Dublin. Chief Suokko is impressed, and Felix becomes the new Dublin Police Dog. After the story was finished, each student got to choose what page they wanted to illustrate. They took their time, and the finished product should really be on a bestseller list, though I am slightly biased. We invited Officer Dalterio in to read the book to him, and the students were able to explain their beautiful illustrations. What a fun, memorable time!

This week, our kindergarteners created a cheerful dandelion writing craft, where they made wishes and practiced their writing skills. It was wonderful to see their creativity shine! We’ve wrapped up our end-of-year assessments, and we are incredibly proud of each child's hard work and growth. In the garden, students have been busy weeding and planting—putting their hands to work and learning about how things grow. Of course, the highlight of recent activities was the circus! The joy and excitement from that unforgettable experience continue to ripple through their play and conversations each day.

A message from Pam Murphy, RN DCS School Nurse
Recently, there have been numerous student requests for cough drops. As cough drops are considered medication, I am asking for your help in following the ConVal policy on medication administration at the elementary level. To do this, any medication, including cough drops, must be delivered to the school by a parent/guardian or their designated responsible adult in the original container. A written permission form is also required which is available at DCS.
Please reach out to me at pmurphy@conval.edu if you have any questions.
