Summer Reading Challenge Summer Reading Challenge

zoom_out_map
Another summer is upon us! We want to encourage our students to continue to build their reading stamina over the summer months to avoid reading and academic loss. We are kicking off our summer reading challenge with the intent of influencing more participation from all students and staff!

Here's how to participate:

  • READ! This can be done independently or with an adult.
  • For every 20 minutes you read, color in a numbered square (see the attachments below).
  • Return the completed and signed paper to your school in September for an invitation to our "Celebrate Reading" party

Please note: Our goal is for students to read at least 20 minutes daily over the summer. However, students can always read more on a particular day and color in an extra square or two.

This year, a new format was used to highlight our students performing in jazz band. It was meant to be more casual and have a "coffee house feel," as opposed to the traditional concert format. Please use the link here to provide feedback as we plan for future years. Thank you!

Students in Mrs. Wilson's and Mrs. Uhrich's fourth-grade classes are applying their learning in social studies! Together, in small groups, they are creating and building their own countries!

Our beginner band and fourth-grade chorus concert was held this week. Soloists, duets, and trios got to show off what they've learned this year. Whole ensembles also shared their musical gifts with the audience!

AE's jazz band performed and talked to third and fourth-grade students. They shared what they do as a jazz band and the benefits of participating. They also played a few songs for all to enjoy.

We celebrated our seniors this week with the annual senior walk-through. We are very proud of their accomplishments and excited about what is in store for their future!

Fifth-grade students in Ms. Wisniewski's class shared words of wisdom for next year's fifth-grade class with the creation of this bulletin board! Their advice includes being helpful to everyone, having a friend by your side, always thinking positively, and learning from your mistakes. Thanks for the advice, Fifth-Grade!

Many thanks to our PTO, which provided lunch and yearbooks to each sixth-grade student. It was a special day for these students to celebrate and reflect on their elementary careers and the friendships they've created!

Sixth-grade students helped to lead second-graders on a tour of AE. They shared helpful tips and pointed out all of the spaces they would need to know as they join us next year in third grade!

Fourth-grade students went on a field trip to Harrisburg, where they visited the state museum and the Capitol Building!

Families, friends and community members enjoyed jazz band performances this week. It was a great turn out to celebrate these ensembles and enjoy their music!
