6th Grade News

6th GradeNews From the desk of Mrs. J. Peters, Assistant Principal

Week of September 18th -

Dear 6th Grade Parents and Families,

I wanted to reach out to you to talk about a topic that we have to deal with here at school. The topic is student expected behavior. Although we do not want to ever assign discipline to our students, sometimes we need to do so in order for our students to learn from their mistakes and make a better choice next time. The inappropriate behavior that our students have at times, does not identify them as a person, or become part of their character. Our kids are growing up and we are helping them learn and guide them in the right direction to make good choices in their lives.

With this being stated, please know there may be times when our 6th graders may make a mistake, and our teaching staff or myself may need to contact you. The communication for minor infractions will come via email from the teacher with an explanation of what happened, and details of a 'student conference' that they had with your child on how we will support the improvement. You may even receive a formal documentation report to give additional details. Hopefully, this process stops here and your child changes his/her behavior. If your child continues with a behavior that is a minor infraction, the teacher will issue a detention, and contact you via phone. They may leave a voicemail.

If you would like to discuss this behavior with your child's teacher, always feel free to reach out and we will make time to have a conversation via phone or in person. The goal for all of us is for our students to be on their best behavior while at SMS, in hopes that our expectation is met and students continue to have a productive learning environment.

We will continue to work together to provide the best education for our 6th graders. We have been having great success with behavior so far.

Sincerely,

Mrs. J. Peters

Assistant Principal - Grade 6
