Celebrating National AVID Day in Chelsea!

What an incredible celebration we had today at Browne Middle School and Chelsea High School! Our AVID 5th, 7th, 9th grade students were extraordinary as they reflected on the prompt:

“Because of AVID, I…”

The students’ responses were powerful and inspiring. It was amazing to listen to them reflect on how AVID has helped them grow as learners, build confidence, set goals, advocate for themselves, and think about their futures. Today was a wonderful reminder that AVID is about so much more than academic skills. It is about helping students discover their strengths, believe in themselves, and develop the skills they need to succeed in college, careers, and life.

Community Transportation: Students practiced using our shuttle and the MBTA Blue Line. We traveled to State Station and visited the CharlieCard Store before heading to Boston Common. While in the community, students practiced customer service skills by ordering their own food and communicating with staff. We also explored Boston Common and looked at some of the historic statues before practicing our route back to school using the train and shuttle.

Independent Living & Cooking: On Thursday, students made apples with SunButter! They practiced following a four-step recipe, preparing their food, and working together. A special thank you to Mrs. Q for supporting our students during the activity. We had so much fun while building important independent living skills!

It was a great week of learning outside and inside the classroom!
