Weather Updates
Dear Families,
This is just a quick reminder of our process when deciding to call a snow day and cancel school. I start with information from the National Weather Service, Weather Channel, and any other quality source of information. I also drive the roads to see for myself what the moisture, cold, and accumulation are doing to our country routes. My first goal is to always keep our students, staff and parents safe. My second goal is to communicate with you as early as possible. We will send out a message if there is a cancellation or late start using our Elm Creek App (sends a Text & Phone Call), Social Media, and the local media outlets. My hope is to try and announce a snow day the night before so families have time to make arrangements and prepare. I also try very hard to avoid late starts as I know this can create as many issues as simply canceling school.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Sincerely,
Dr. Schroder

SECONDARY FAMILIES
Hello Elm Creek Families!
Oh how time flies. The end of the first quarter is upon us. I think weβve had a great first nine weeks. I have learned a lot about this great place in my first nine weeks with students. This is a great group of kids that I love working with. We are working hard to do the best we can to help them meet their potential and perform in the classroom. Thank you for supporting us as we make changes designed to help them. GO BUFFS!!
Essential Time:
Remember every student must have all assignments completed and be passing all classes to be dismissed at normal time. If they do not they will have to stay until 4 PM. We want to do everything we can to support them. Please help us by encouraging your student(s) to complete all coursework on time.
NSCAS Data:
The NSCAS data for grades 3-8 from the 21-22 school year will be sent home in the coming weeks. When reading the data please use this document to help you understand the scores. We will resend this link and information when we send the results home.
ACT
This week we had our Fall ACT. This is a big area of focus for us this year. For students to score to their potential we must prepare them, and they must get exposure and practice on this test. We highly encourage you to have your child take this test at least one time their Freshman year, a couple times their Sophomore year, and several times their Junior year. It can even be taken as a Senior. Every Junior at Elm Creek must take it and we administer the test here several times. The next national test date is December 10th and the registration deadline is November 4th. If you are interested in more information go to act.org or let us know and we will do our best to help you.
Activities:
The Winter Sports season is quickly approaching. This means postseason action for Fall Sports. We kick this off this week with a home playoff game at 5 PM this Thursday versus Mullen with the winner moving on to the 2nd round. If we win this week we will be traveling next week and should be seeded somewhere between 10 and 13 in the 16 man bracket.
On Friday our Lady Buffs Cross Country team travels to Kearney for the State Meet. The Class D girls run starts at 1 PM. Here is the schedule for the day: https://nsaahome.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/2022-State-Cross-Country-Schedule.pdf
Last week the girls finished 3rd in their District and qualified as a team. To my knowledge, this is the first ever Elm Creek girls Cross Country team to qualify for the State Meet. Congratulations on a great achievement ladies.
We want to send a huge shout out to our Elm Creek Marching Band on a great season. They finished it off with a Superior rating at the Minden Band Fest this past weekend. These kids and the sponsors put in a lot of time prepping for this, so itβs great to see the success and growth we are seeing. Keep it up.
ELEMENTARY FAMILIES

Veterans Day Program
Elm Creek Public Schools Veteran's Day Program will be on Friday November 11th at 9 AM. We would like to invite all Veteran's to come early and eat a free breakfast on us. The Freshman and Junior class will be serving pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee, and juice starting at 8 AM in the commons for all of our Veteran's as a thank you for your service. We hope to see you there!
Student Lunch Charges
- A reminder for all parents that now that we are back to our regular priced meals this means your children are able to charge to their accounts. Please make sure you have a conversation with them about whether or not you would like them to charge extras and/or aβla carte items to their lunch account. We realize this can add up very quickly. We try to have items for all price ranges, .25, .50, and .75 and extras are still $1. If you wish to not have your child(ren) charge please call the school (308-856-4300). We cannot keep track of what they are allowed to spend.

One Act Starting Off Strong
Elm Creek One Act is off to a strong start this year with many of our performances coming up here in the month of November. Our play this year is called "The Wild Bunch Women: A Memory Play" by Nelly E. Cuellar-Garcia. It follows Pearl Hart as she recounts her time with her wild, western bunch of women and their interactions between a rival gang and a rival order of Nuns. Little does Pearl know the girl that her band runs into is actually her daughter she had to give up years earlier. We are super proud to have close to 35 students involved this year between JH crew members and HS cast members. We will have close to 8 total performances throughout the month of November, and we are looking forward to putting in the hard work and dedication to make a good run into Districts and beyond! We are planning to have a community performance for Elm Creek families on Monday, November 21st. We hope to see you there and if you see any of our One Act students wish them the best of luck with our many upcoming performances!!

Volleyball-We DIG it!
The Lady Buffaloes Volleyball season came to an end on Monday October 24th to a top ranked D1 Axtell team. It was a tough one when you look at our wins and losses, but I am so incredibly proud of everyone of these girls. They have made so much progress since they stepped into the gym back in July for summer league. They all developed and improved in some way as far as the game itself goes. I told them from the beginning that it was going to be the fundamentals that win us the games and we needed to keep improving on them. When you have seasons that are with not many wins it is easy to point the blame on each other, I am so proud of them for not doing this they continued to work hard and show up for practice. It was also a tough season with a young rebuilding team when you start out with so many games for your season, it didn't leave a lot of time to practice to work on these fundamentals and develop for about a month.
Thank you to the coaches: Jennifer Kotschwar-Anderson, Tamara Myers, and Chris Shoff that helped this season and also our student managers: Nora Brodine, Shyan Simmerman, Kassidy Kenning, Kyra Hubbard, Gracelyn Strope, Ashlyn Hellriegel, and Brileigh Hall. We could not have done it without your help.
A special thanks to the parents that provided meals, goodie bags, decorations and meals after away games.
Finally to our seniors Denise Hunt and Rylee Gutzwiller it has been a pleasure coaching you for 4 years, 3 as your assistant and 1 as your head. Your leadership was appreciated more than you know. Best of Luck to you in the future ahead. Thanks to all these ladies for the memories this season as my first year as a head coach.
