Superintendent's Weekly Update

September 8, 2023
Dear Weymouth Public Schools' Community,
Welcome back, Wildcats!
It is with great pleasure we welcome back both our returning families, and our new families to Weymouth Public Schools for the 2023-2024 school year. With roughly 5849 students in our school system, and 450 currently enrolled in the Kindergarten Class of 2036, WPS is a strong and diverse district filled with robust education and extracurricular opportunities.
As we all know, the first days of any new school year are sometimes fraught with operational issues, particularly with transportation. While we have been able to address many issues, we continue to experience delays. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to monitor our bus routes and schedules are worked out.
As a reminder, any student who would like to utilize school transportation must complete a bus application for consideration. Applications that are determined eligible are processed in the order in which they are received. For any issues or concerns with bus schedules, bus assignments, etc., please reach out to your building principal.
It was an exceptional first week as our classrooms, auditoriums, cafeterias, and learning environments came to life. Students were greeted by new and returning educators and administrators, and were welcomed into old and new schools. There was a tremendous sense of pride and community that could be felt across the entire district.
Although school officially started this week, there was a great deal of planning and preparation that went into our schools and classrooms this summer. I would like to thank our staff for their many important roles to prepare for the return to school including cleaning our buildings, overseeing projects and programming, managing renovations, preparing classrooms, hiring staff, and so much more. Our district administration put a great emphasis on developing goals, planning and strategizing to have the greatest impact on all our students this school year.
One of the most important parts of my job is also something that I enjoy the most-- spending time in our schools and connecting with students and educators. I also look forward to engaging with our families, and hope to meet as many of you as possible this year. If there is anything we can do to better serve your student, please do not hesitate to reach out to our school staff, principals or administrators.
Below are a few “first week” smiles from across the district. We are looking forward to sharing many more from all our schools, including our incoming JECC Pre-K students next week!
In closing, on Monday, September 11th our nation will collectively remember the spirit of sacrifice made 22 years ago, and honor the sacrifices that continue to be made by members of the armed forces and their families today. In honor of 9/11, please take a moment to remember, and talk to your child about the significance of these events on our nation's history.
Best Regards,
Robert Wargo
Superintendent
