Football Program Update
Over the past several months, we have engaged in ongoing discussions about the direction of the Oakland-Craig Football Program. One of our continued concerns is the current and projected participation numbers. As we look ahead to the 2025–2026 school year, student participation in our football program will be vital in determining whether or not we can continue with a varsity season.
At this time we have not made any final decisions as to the 2025-2026 football season. The Board of Education, administration, and coaching staff are committed to exploring every possible avenue to support our football program and we trust we will see that same level of commitment from our student athletes, parents, and community members.
We will continue to discuss the future of our football program and update the students, parents, and community as decisions are made. We hope to have more information during our May 12 Board of Education meeting.
OC Choir Receives Superior Ratings at District Music
The Oakland-Craig choir received all superior ratings at district music last week. This is an incredible accomplishment. Congratulations to all of our choir members, as well as our director, Mrs. Howser, and our accompanist, Mrs. Anderson.
OC Band Receives Superior Ratings at District Music
The Oakland-Craig band also received all superior ratings at district music last week. Again, an incredible accomplishment. Congratulations to all of our band members, as well as our director, Mr. Beutler.
Staff Appreciation
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. I encourage you to take a moment to thank a teacher or staff member and let them know how their efforts have made a positive impact on you. Sharing a specific example of something you appreciate can mean more than you realize.
After School Program
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you of a difficult decision that the Board of Education has made regarding the future of our after-school program. After careful consideration and in response to ongoing staffing challenges, we have made the decision to discontinue the after-school program, effective at the end of this school year.
Over the years, the requirements for both after-school and teaching staff have grown significantly, and we have observed an increase in burnout and high turnover rates in the field of education. In light of these challenges, the Board of Education, along with the administrative team, feels that discontinuing the after-school program is necessary to better support our teachers and ensure they can focus on providing high-quality instruction during the regular school day. We remain committed to fostering a supportive environment for our teachers, as this ultimately benefits our students as well.
We understand that this decision may create challenges for many of our families, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We are aware of the impact it may have, and we want to assure you that the well-being of our students and staff remains our top priority.
In an effort to assist families with the transition, we are committed to extending our hours of supervision. Beginning in the fall of 2025, we will open the doors for students at 7:30 a.m. and will provide supervision until 4:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 2:45 p.m. on Fridays, at which time students must leave school property. Our hope is this extended supervision will allow more flexibility for our families. We want to ensure that you are informed of this change well in advance, and we appreciate your understanding as we work through this transition.
The discontinuation of the after-school program will take effect at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
