Dear Alta Mesa Families,

Wheew, the first full week of school is always a mixture of excitement and exhaustion for our students and staff. We were able to end this week in amazing fashion by having an assembly where students got to see their teachers get a little silly. We now get to settle into the normal rhythms of school. Here are a couple reminder for this upcoming week.

1. Beginning of year forms - we are pushing to get them all completed by 100% of our students. Every classroom that has 100% of their forms filled out by September 8th will receive a Pizza Party.
2. We need picture day volunteers!! If you're interested please swing by the office or email Kaylene Elliott at kelliott@eesd.net
3. Cross Country and STEM sign ups will be in the office starting Monday
4. If you have ordered an Alta Mesa tee-shirt or sweatshirt payment is due by this Friday!! Orders are not completed until we receive payment.

We are doing an Alta Mesa t-shirt/sweatshirt order!!! Make sure to fill a form out for each person who is ordering. We will not finalize the order until payment is received in the office. We will be taking orders through Friday, September 1st.

We have had several requests for our Alta Mesa "Think Pink" shirts to be available to families. We will be doing an order for these on top of our normal shirt orders. If you are interested the link is below. Remember no order is complete until payment is received. Orders are due by Friday, September 1st.

The Riffle Raffle is our classroom teachers main fundraiser for the year. The ticket sales are facilitated by our Alta Mesa Parent Club. If you are interested in selling tickets, please sign the ticket request form that will go home with your student on Friday, Aug 25th. Once we have a signed ticket request we will issue tickets to students starting Monday, Aug 28th.

All proceeds go to the classroom teachers Parent Club account to be used for many things including field trips and the purchase of classroom materials.

Alta Mesa Stem Club is back again! We will be starting on September 5th! 3-5 grades will meet on Tuesdays, and 1-3 will meet on Thursdays. Third grade will be split based off of siblings, interest, and to help fit as many kids as possible. Our last club day will be on October 12th!

Students are chosen through a lottery. Applications MUST be turned in by Thursday, August 31 @ 2:00 pm. We will announce who was selected through the lottery on Friday, September 1 @ 2:06 pm on the front office door, and through email.

Permission slips will be in the office starting Monday, August 28th.

It's Cross Country time! Cross Country is available for K-5th grade students. Practices will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:15-3:00. Students will need to have a signed permission slip before attending the first practice on Sept 5th.

It's hot outside so please make sure your student has a water bottle for every practice. Students will also need to have running shoes, no sandals. Cost per child will be $10 for Alta Mesa Cross Country t-shirts and Place and Participant ribbons that are given out at the meets.

Permission slips will be available in the office starting Monday, Aug 28th.

Picture Day will look a little different this year because Studio 530 Photography will be doing all their ordering online. There will no longer be preorders or packets that go home with your students. All orders will be made AFTER pictures have been taken.

There are benefits to this new system:

1) You will be able to view pictures before you buy them

2) You are able to fully customize backgrounds

Here are the steps for ordering pictures (a slip will go home with your students as well):

• Each student will get their picture taken on picture day and will be given a slip to take home to their parents/guardians
• A few days later parents will be able to use the slip that was sent home to register and order pictures
• If orders are placed within the first week of pictures being taken, no shipping costs will be added

WE NEED PICTURE DAY VOLUNTEERS! If you are available to help on picture day please email kelliott@eesd.net or come see us in the office. Every volunteer will receive a FREE picture packet!

All parents, including new parents, should have logged into the Parent Portal at some point already. Why do you need to create a parent account? This is a secure platform through which you will view your child's teacher/class, receive your child’s report card, complete enrollment, and complete the necessary beginning-of-the-year school forms like your child's emergency card. In the future, this is also how state testing results will be communicated.
