Sunny Heights Families,

It has been a chilly but busy week at Sunny Heights Elementary! The winter weather is here, but the work and effort inside is heating up! Students are working hard to prepare for upcoming measures of growth as NWEA, IREAD, and spring ILEARN approach. Our goal is for every student to show EXCELLENCE each and every day in the classroom which will lead them to growth and success.

Today, every student was sent home with their iPad and charger. Students will be bringing their devices and chargers to and from school each day. It is very important that students learn to be responsible with their devices by remembering to bring them each day, charge them at night, and take proper care of them.

A reminder that school is closed this Monday for President's Day and that Tuesday, February 16th is an eLearning Day. We will see everyone back at school on Wednesday, February 17th.

Enclosed in this email is a the parent recommendation form link for the 2021-2022 school year. This form is for all of Warren Township elementary and IA/MS schools. The time frame this year will be from January 11th through March 26th.

It is time for families of our 1st grade VIRTUAL students to see what steps they should take if they would like for their child to be considered for Warren's High Ability Program in 2nd grade. To be considered, students must participate in NWEA and CogAT testing in person at designated times.

Information that you will need and who to contact with any questions is listed below in the letter.

As we prepare for receiving students back to in-person instruction and transitioning students to 100% virtual, you may see changes appear in your ParentVue (Synergy) and your student’s Canvas account. Some possible changes might be seeing a new teacher’s name appear on your student’s schedule or a new classroom dashboard tile in Canvas. Do not be alarmed by these changes. Once your student begins their new schedule on January 19th, you will see their accurate placement and correct teacher connections with Canvas and digital curriculum.

Warren Parents and Caregivers, here is the link to our Student Success Handbook. This handbook is updated every year to include information about how we keep students and staff safe at school, along with resources for families to access as well as information on district procedures and policies. This handbook is also shared with students. Please take a moment to review and complete this as acknowledgement that you have received the handbook. Please reach out if you have any questions.

Beginning Monday, October 26th the Moorhead technology help desk will move to door 11 at the rear of the building located near the playground. Please drive through the gate on the west side of the building and, after parking, enter door 11 for assistance. The Technology team will keep the same hours for the help desk: Monday through Friday (except holidays) from 11am to 1pm.

For the 2020-2021 school year, Warren Township has transitioned to a new student information system called Synergy allowing our parents and caregivers to have improved access to school information through the parent portal called ParentVUE. We are aware that at this time some students’ attendance records are reflecting students are absent, when in fact they were present. This is mostly the case for our students who are attending school VIRTUALLY on application days or in the VIRTUAL opinion full-time. We want to assure you that teachers are keeping accurate attendance records and that we are working to correct attendance records for all our students.

This week our students are focusing on recognizing students that show EXCELLENCE throughout the day. Excellence is shown when students put forth their best effort in any situation, especially difficult or challenging situations. We want Sunny Heights to be a place where everyone is valued, respected, and strives for their own excellence.

Here is the Updated Lunch Menu from Chartwell's. Starting Monday, students will get a choice of a hot or cold entree!

The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child's school. This may include your child's photo, your child's name or your child's work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/social media or in staff training videos. We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child's achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/political purposes. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognition if you notify your child's school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.
