π§ Mental Health Week
- Mental Health Mini Break: For the first five minutes after lunch May 4-8 we will have a school wide Mini Break. Each day there will be an announcement asking everyone to begin the Mini Mental Health Break. Catherine will send a division email daily containing a short video to watch with your class during this 5 minutes.
π© Caps for Cancer
- We raised $167.10 on our first Caps for Cancer day. Well done Holy Spirit! This will continue each Friday of May and June.
π Guest Teacher Reminders
- When entering an absence in SFE, the start and end time is 8:15-3:00pm (or 2PM)
- If you are entering a half day in SFE, you would enter 8:15-12:00 or 12:00-3:00 (or 2:00pm)
- Guest teachers should be arriving 15 mins before the start of the day- if you have supervision, you need to let them know in the plans and leave a note in SFE.
- Attendance is to be done online using Power Teacher- Guest Teachers with the code HolySpirit137

OH&S
- Lunches and shoes - Elementary teachers, please ensure all your students have their shoes and lunch kits before they leave the classroom for recess or lunch. We still have MANY students arriving in the gym in socks and/or coming to the office because they forgot their lunch in the class. We REALLY need your help with this. Thank you!
- Junior High Hallway and PM Attendance- Teachers, please be actively present in the halls during class changes. This goes a long way in reducing unwanted behaviors. Please also remind students that if they are late for afternoon homeroom and then do not get a late slip, that the system will phone home as they will be marked absent for the afternoon. This causes parents to panic. π¬
Learning Commons
Some of our recent new nonfiction book titles for students:
- Action Bible - God's Redemptive Story (3 copies - graphic novel style)
- Her Story, Her Strength - 50 God-Empowered Women of the Bible
- Read and Learn Bedtime Bible
- I Am - 40 Reasons to Trust God
- A Saint a Day - 365 True Stories of Faith and Heroism
The ALA published their list of the most challenged books of 2025 recently. Some of the details are quite interesting this year, such as 92% of challenges being initiated by pressure groups in 2025, up from 72% in 2024. Only 3% came from individual parents.
Interested in books challenged in Canada? Try this link. You will find some of the reasoning for the challenges the Toronto Public Library pretty funny (odd?) (e.g. Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss promotes father abuse and the complainant would like the library to apologize to all fathers regarding this situation)

Junior High students are more than welcome to exchange books during open book exchange times (Mon/Wed - 8:35-9:05, Tue/Thur - 10:39-11:09, Fri - 11:50-12:10) They are also welcome for book exchange any time I don't have a class in the learning commons (see the blue schedule hanging in the LC window by the staffroom door). It would be great to see more junior high students taking books home.
