Note from Mr. Camp About Board Decision

Dear Werner Community,

As you are now probably aware, the PSD Board of Education made the difficult decision, on Oct. 27, to close or consolidate 6 schools for the 2027-28 school year (Closures: Beattie Elementary, Blevins Middle School, Johnson Elementary, and Putnam Elementary; Consolidate: Centennial High School Poudre Community Academy). Also, Irish Elementary will close for the 2028-29 school year and Timnath Elementary School will close for the 2028-29 school (unless the Town of Timnath can secure funding for a new building by Nov. 2027). For more detail, please see the communication below in the "Updates from PSD".

The other part of the Board's decision was to approve a recommendation for boundary changes that impact Werner. Beginning 2027-28, neighborhoods that currently attend Werner along Timberline Road will now attend Bacon. However, our impacted families in these areas will have the opportunity to remain with us until your child moves on to the next level. There will be more information coming next week about that process for declaring your intent to remain if you are impacted by the change in boundaries to Bacon Elementary. In the meantime, if you have any questions, you can contact me (hcamp@psdschools.org).

In anticipation of more families considering other options next year, we are planning to host different opportunities for learning more about Werner. On November 11, we will host a Kindergarten Info Night for families looking at schools for their future kindergartener. Then on November 19, we will host an Open House Info Night for families considering Werner for their 1st-5th grader. Both of these nights are designed to give families more opportunity to here about our school, see the building, and meet some of our staff. If you know of any colleagues or friends that are looking at schools, we would ask for you to share more info about the opportunities they have to hear about Werner. As always, we do offer private tours for families wanting to see the school during the school day.

I just want to personally thank our community for continued support of our school and for their engagement with weighing in on the Board's difficult decision on the recommendations presented. These are challenging times and I'm grateful for our community support and our continued focus to offer the best educational experience we can for our students. If you have any questions, please reach out to me.

Sincerely,

Hayden Camp

Principal

Board Action on Comprehensive Planning Recommendation

Dear PSD Families, Students, Staff, and Community Members,

At the Board Meeting convened on Oct. 27, the Board of Education voted to close or consolidate six Poudre School District schools beginning in the Fall of the 2027-2028 school year. The Board of Education voted to close two more schools beginning in the Fall of the 2028-2029 school year. This is a challenging moment for our community, but I believe these changes will make us a stronger district that is better able to support our students as we move into this new future. Thank you to the many students, families, staff, and community members who shared their perspectives throughout this process.

Based on the Board of Education’s vote, the following changes will be implemented:

  • Effective July 1, 2027, Beattie Elementary School will close and students within the neighborhood boundary will be assigned to Lopez Elementary School and Bennett Elementary School.
  • Effective July 1, 2028, Irish Escuela Bilingüe Elementary School will close and students within the neighborhood will be assigned to Cache la Poudre Elementary School and Bauder Elementary School. In addition, the Board directs the administration during the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years, to develop a more unified Dual Language program that will begin during the 2028-2029 school year.
  • Effective July 1, 2027, Johnson Elementary School will close and students within the neighborhood boundary will be assigned to Olander Elementary School and McGraw Elementary School.
  • Effective July 1, 2027, Putnam Elementary School will close and students within the neighborhood boundary will be assigned to Dunn Elementary School and Tavelli Elementary School.
  • Effective July 1, 2028, Timnath Elementary School will close and students within the neighborhood boundary will be assigned to Linton Elementary School and Bamford Elementary School, unless the Town of Timnath secures funding to fully fund the cost of building a new elementary school that would be owned and operated by the Poudre School District, before the District’s first round of school of choice application opens no later than November 5, 2027, and an intergovernmental agreement is entered into between the Poudre School District and the Town of Timnath regarding the parties respective roles and obligations by January 31, 2027.
  • Effective July 1, 2027, a boundary change will be implemented for Bacon Elementary School.
  • Effective July 1, 2027, Blevins Middle School will close and students within the neighborhood boundary will be assigned to Webber Middle School and Lincoln Middle School.
  • Effective July 1, 2027, Centennial High School and Poudre Community Academy will consolidate to form a new school. The future location will be determined in early 2027.

What’s Next

  • If you intend to apply for a seat at a school other than your student’s new neighborhood school, please visit the School Choice page of the PSD website for more information. The first round School Choice window opens November 4, 2026, and closes December 16, 2026. Students from closing schools will receive priority consideration in the School Choice process.
  • Information about Early Childhood enrollment will be shared with district families in a separate message.
  • Transportation will be available to students who live outside of the walk zones for their newly assigned schools. This means students residing more than 1 mile from their elementary school, 1.5 miles from their middle school, or 2 miles from their high school will be eligible for PSD transportation. Transportation is not provided to students attending a School of Choice.
