The Fowler Weekly
February 6-10
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Fowler Family,
We are moving into our first full week of Black History Month, and our equity team has done a fantastic job in partnering with students to highlight accomplishments and contributions of our Black and African American community. We met with students to identify what we want to see more of and less of at Fowler, and our student voices are not only insightful, but inspirational as well. Fowler students are amazing, and we are blessed to have a diverse and thoughtful student community.
Also, our counselors worked hard and long hours this past week to balance schedules and students may see some shifts in their class schedule on Monday. Please know our teachers and counselors often do check emails in the evening hours, but their contract day does end at 3:30PM. Staff also have their own family obligations to attend to after school, but will certainly do their best to respond during their work hours on the following day. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
We look forward to a great semester 2! Go Falcons.
Andy
HAPPENINGS
Semester Two/Quarter 3 begins tomorrow, February 6. Some students may have a schedule change, some may not. Either way, all students will receive a copy of their Semester 2/Quarter 3 schedule in their morning meeting class tomorrow. They may also access their schedule via StudentVue.
Some reminders as we head into a new semester and a fresh start:
School Hours: 8:30am-3:10pm MTThF
Late Start Wednesday: 9:30am-3:10pm
It is important that all students are in class, all day, every day. We understand that there are exceptions to students being able to attend school, when there is a legitimate reason for them to miss school, please be sure to call our 24 hour Bilingual Attendance Line (503)431-5021 and leave a message. You can do so any time of day or night.
If you need to pick your student up early, please call the office prior to your arrival, and we will do our best to have your student waiting for you. “Prior to” can be days before, the day before, the same day or on your way. You are always welcome to leave the information on our 24 hour Attendance Line (503)431-5021, as we pick up those messages first thing each morning. For safety purposes, we do require that you come into the Main Office and sign your student out. We will always take students in, but want to make sure that we know who they are leaving with.
Please use the Walnut Street entrance and tennis court lot to drop-off your student or pick-up your student. If you pick-up students in the morning, or pick them up in the afternoon, the parking lot in front of the school is CLOSED from 8-8:45am, and 2:45-3:20pm for student safety and to give buses the access they need.
BUS NOTES: Students riding home with a friend need to bring a written note from their parent/guardian that includes the student name that they will be riding home with and the bus number they will be riding. The note should be brought to the Main Office PRIOR to the end of the day for a stamp. (Example: Mickey Mouse has my permission to ride bus number 56 home with Donald Duck today, 1/5/23. Parent Signature.) Parents may email permission to fowleroffice@ttsd.k12.or.us and we will get the note signed and to your student.
Cell phone and personal electronic devices are not allowed during classroom time unless explicitly permitted by the classroom teacher. This also means that students may not take phones into the hallways or bathrooms, staff offices, or other areas while classes are in session. Cell phones must be silenced and away during class time. If parents need to contact students during the school day, they should call the office and a note will be delivered to students. Texting, social media use, or making phone calls from cell phones is not allowed during defined class session times.
Information regarding deliveries for students: For a variety of reasons (including safety), we do NOT accept food deliveries from DoorDash, Uber Eats, GrubHub or other delivery services for students during the school day. This also includes floral deliveries and/or balloon deliveries for celebrations.
We DO accept deliveries from parents/guardians: homework, iPads, lunches and any other necessary items. We will communicate with the student that the item is there in order for them to know it can be picked up in the Main Office.
If your student comes home troubled by something that happens at school, we would like you to know that there are two reporting apps available to all students at all times. If there is a situation where someone is in immediate danger, they can use the Safe Oregon reporting app. This app is connected to our staff/emergency services 24/7. If there is a concern that needs to be reported but can wait until school hours to be addressed, students can use the Student Concern Report app on their iPad. These reports are monitored by our administrators.
We have our first round of ASA Jamborees this week:
Jamborees run from 3:35-5:00pm
ALL STUDENTS WILL NEED A RIDE HOME FROM FOWLER when the Jamborees are over. There are no buses to transport students. They will need to be picked up just after 5:00pm if it’s a home Jamboree, between 5:15pm and 5:30pm if it’s away.
Basketball Jamboree at Fowler: Wednesday, February 8
Volleyball Jamboree at Hazelbrook: Wednesday, February 8
Indoor Soccer Jamboree at Fowler: Thursday, February 9
Go Falcons!
It’s time to Celebrate! We had six students participating in the District 14 Honor Choir this weekend! They sang with select students from 13 other middle schools in our district. The students were in rehearsals all day Friday at Twality Middle School. On Saturday, they had additional rehearsals and performed in a concert at Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego.

PSO
The “Dance the Night Away” Dance sponsored by the PSO was a huge success! One parent took the time to say, “I’m not sure who was responsible for putting together the dance tonight, but I’d like to send them a heartfelt thank you. I heard several kids say it was amazing! Everything seemed to be so well done from lights to music to decorations and making sure kids were safe…The smiles on the kids’ faces were priceless!”
Huge Kudos go out to
Our Administration Team, for supporting the evening through planning and giving up their evening to be here
The Leadership class and Mrs. Grube, for the amazing decorations
The staff members who stayed and help chaperone
Our custodians for setting up, cleaning up and changing their normal routine to work around the dance
And finally, to our fabulous PSO! The planning and time spent ahead of time and during the dance are very much appreciated
THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE ABOVE!
The next PSO Meeting is Thursday, February 16, 6:30pm, in the library at Fowler. Please consider coming. All are welcome!
