Principal's Report
Dear Parents/Carers,
The school is buzzing with energy this term, as students immerse themselves in a variety of engaging learning experiences. Here's an update on what's happening around our school:
Student Reports & Parent Consultation
In Week 10, students will receive their term reports. This year, we're introducing a slight change to the report format and would love to hear your thoughts. Please join us for a Parent Forum on Tuesday, 20 May, in the library, immediately following the morning assembly. Your feedback is invaluable as we strive to enhance our reporting process.
Cross Country Achievements
A huge congratulations to the 31 students who have qualified for the Green Valley PSSA Cross Country Zone Carnival following the CPS Cross Country. These students have demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication in the sporting domain. If your child has qualified, they should have received a note with further details.
Thank you for your continued support in making Cartwright Public School a vibrant and inclusive community.
Kind regards,
Elizabeth Harris
Principal

"Welcome back to Term 2! We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break during the holidays. This term promises exciting learning adventures and special events. Students are more settled and are following most of the class routines.
In English we are reading the text “Go Home, Cheeky Animals!”. Students are learning that texts are influenced by the experiences of the writer and can be understood based on the experiences of the reader. Each week students are learning a new alphabet, the sound it makes and using the decoding skill to read and spell the words. It is good to see students developing the writing skills to write simple sentence.
Our Maths lessons are full of fun hands-on activities and the students are developing their number skills, shapes and measurements. Students are learning the language of Maths to communicate clearly, make connections with Mathematics and the world around them.
Our Science unit is about “Living and Non-Living things” and in History student we are looking at “Families in the past and present”. Every Thursday, for sports the students are developing their athletics skills with some professional coaches. Lots of fun.
Looking forward to the Multicultural Day next Monday and an exciting Term 2. Wow! What an amazing start to the year.

Teal
This term for maths in Teal, we have been looking at different 3d objects in the classroom and exploring their different features!
We have been using magic sand to make 3d objects and sort them, and we’ve also been building towers to see how different 3d objects can be put together! Now, we’ve learned all about cubes, cylinders, spheres, and cones!
Teal have also been having an amazing time at Zing Active and look forward to every Thursday afternoon when we can go out into the sunshine for fun. We can’t wait to see what else is in store for term 2!
1/2 Blue
1/2 Blue have continued diving into the world of phonics—a key part of learning to read and write with confidence. Through fun, interactive lessons, children are exploring how letters and sounds work together to form words.
From sounding out simple words to recognizing common patterns, phonics helps build a strong foundation for lifelong literacy. Keep an ear out at home—you might hear your child blending sounds or spotting “tricky words” in everyday reading!
4/5 Purple
Welcome back to Term 2 in 4/5 Purple! We’re off to a fantastic start after a jam-packed Term 1, which included our first Gala Day, the vibrant Easter Hat Parade, and the Harmony Day celebrations.
A big thank you to all the families who joined us for the Mother’s Day breakfast and supported the stall. It was wonderful to see such a great turnout!
Looking ahead, students can look forward to receiving their reports and attending camp at the end of the term. A few key reminders for the weeks ahead:
- Library Day is every Tuesday morning – don’t forget to bring library bags and books!
- Thursdays, with Zing Active who deliver fun and engaging Athletics sessions.
- On Fridays, students will participate in their chosen sport—Mixed Try League, Girls’ Softball, or Mixed Newcombe Ball. Selected students will also represent our class in Gala Day sports competitions.
To help students stay on track, please ensure homework is completed and returned by Friday each week. This helps reinforce learning and builds consistent study habits.
As always, Seesaw is a fantastic platform for updates and communication. Feel free to reach out.
Let’s make Term 2 another exciting and successful chapter!
