Our mission at William C. "Nemo" Herrera Elementary School is to provide a learning environment that is positive, safe and caring; a fun place to learn and grow.

Nuestra misión en la Escuela Primaria William C. "Nemo" Herrera es proporcionar un ambiente de aprendizaje positivo, seguro y afectuoso; un lugar divertido para aprender y crecer.

As we move into the middle of the school year, this is one of the most important times for our students’ growth. This period allows us to reflect on progress so far and ensure that every child is receiving the right supports to continue moving forward academically and socially.

At this time, teachers are reviewing student data and will be reaching out to families to request permission for intervention and enrichment opportunities before and after school. These supports are designed to meet students where they are, whether they need additional assistance or opportunities to be challenged and extend their learning. Your partnership is essential, and we appreciate your continued collaboration as we work together to help every student succeed.

I would also like to take this opportunity to share that I will be transitioning from Herrera Elementary. Serving this community for the past two and a half years has truly been an honor and a privilege. Herrera has been an incredibly important part of my professional journey and has taught me so much as an administrator and as an educator.

Throughout my time here, I have had the opportunity to build meaningful and lasting connections with many of our families. Those relationships, along with the dedication of our staff and the resilience of our students, have made this campus a very special place in my heart.

While I am sad to be leaving, I am confident that the work will continue. Herrera has made tremendous progress, and I know this campus will remain focused on ensuring that every child continues to grow and finds success by the end of the school year.

In the meantime, our teachers and staff will continue working tirelessly to provide high-quality instruction and intentional support for all students each and every day.

Thank you for your trust, your partnership, and the opportunity to serve the Herrera community. I will truly miss our little polar bears. It has been an honor to be part of their educational journey.

Al llegar a la mitad del año escolar, este es uno de los momentos más importantes para el crecimiento de nuestros estudiantes. Este periodo nos permite reflexionar sobre el progreso logrado hasta ahora y asegurarnos de que cada niño esté recibiendo los apoyos adecuados para continuar avanzando tanto académica como socialmente.

En este momento, los maestros están revisando los datos de los estudiantes y se estarán comunicando con las familias para solicitar permiso para oportunidades de intervención y enriquecimiento antes y después del horario escolar. Estos apoyos están diseñados para atender las necesidades de cada estudiante, ya sea que necesiten apoyo adicional o mayores retos para extender su aprendizaje. Su colaboración es fundamental, y agradecemos su continuo apoyo mientras trabajamos juntos para que cada estudiante tenga éxito.

También me gustaría aprovechar esta oportunidad para compartir que estaré haciendo una transición fuera de la Escuela Primaria Herrera. Servir a esta comunidad durante los últimos dos años y medio ha sido verdaderamente un honor y un privilegio. Herrera ha sido una parte muy importante de mi trayectoria profesional y me ha enseñado muchísimo como administradora y educadora.

A lo largo de mi tiempo aquí, he tenido la oportunidad de construir conexiones significativas y duraderas con muchas de nuestras familias. Esas relaciones, junto con la dedicación de nuestro personal y la resiliencia de nuestros estudiantes, han hecho de este plantel un lugar muy especial en mi corazón.

Aunque me entristece partir, tengo plena confianza en que el trabajo continuará. Herrera ha logrado un progreso significativo, y sé que este plantel seguirá enfocado en asegurar que cada niño continúe creciendo y tenga éxito al final del año escolar.

Mientras tanto, nuestros maestros y personal continuarán trabajando incansablemente para brindar instrucción de alta calidad y apoyo intencional a todos los estudiantes, todos los días.

Gracias por su confianza, su colaboración y la oportunidad de servir a la comunidad de Herrera. Extrañaré profundamente a nuestros pequeños osos polares. Ha sido un honor ser parte de su trayectoria educativa.

All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the month, so be sure to stop by before then!

📢 Upcoming Science Fair on January 29th!

We are thrilled to announce that our Science Fair is just around the corner! This is an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and curiosity through a STEM or Science project. Participating in the fair is a great way to explore new ideas, learn through hands-on experiences, and celebrate the wonders of science.

Important Details:

• Date of Science Fair: January 29th
• Projects Due: No later than January 28th

• Projects are mandatory for: 4th and 5th grade students

• Science Boards: Provided by teachers for all participants

If you have any questions or need help with your project, Mrs. Salazar, our Math/Science Coach, is always available to support you.

Tips for parents to support students:

1. Help brainstorm ideas that match your child’s interests...science is everywhere!
2. Gather materials early to avoid last-minute stress.
3. Encourage research using books, videos, or safe online resources.
4. Practice explaining the project...students should be able to share what they learned.
5. Celebrate effort and creativity, not just the final result!

Let’s make this Science Fair an unforgettable experience full of innovation and discovery!

📢 ¡Próxima Feria de Ciencias el 29 de enero!

¡Estamos emocionados de anunciar que nuestra Feria de Ciencias está a la vuelta de la esquina! Esta es una oportunidad emocionante para que los estudiantes muestren su creatividad y curiosidad a través de un proyecto de Ciencia o STEM. Participar en la feria es una excelente manera de explorar nuevas ideas, aprender con experiencias prácticas y celebrar las maravillas de la ciencia.

Detalles importantes:

• Fecha de la Feria de Ciencias: 29 de enero

• Entrega de proyectos: a más tardar el 28 de enero

• Proyectos obligatorios para: estudiantes de 4° y 5° grado

• Tableros de ciencias: proporcionados por los maestros para todos los participantes

• Apoyo: Si tiene preguntas o necesita ayuda con su proyecto, la Sra. Salazar, nuestra Coach de Matemáticas/Ciencias, está disponible para apoyar a los estudiantes.

Consejos para padres para apoyar a sus hijos:
