Paradise Place ETNS Newsletter
13 June 2025
Dear parents, carers, staff and friends,
Active Week
What a fabulous Active Week we have had! The children have been so busy and had their bodies moving in lots of different ways and through lots of different activities. Thank you to everyone who has engaged with the different activities this week - and a special word of thanks to all of the adults who contributed by leading the children through special activities for this week. Thanks also to James who coordinated the entire week so expertly!
Malin to Mizen Challenge
Each day, classes have teamed up to run laps of Blessington Street Basin. We have adding together all of the metres they have run across the school with the aim of running the length of Ireland - from Malin Head in County Donegal to Mizen Head in County Cork - a total of 644km.
And we did it! Congratulations to everyone who took part.
Active Homework
Well done to everyone who did their Active Homework this week and posted their videos and photos on Seesaw. It was great to see everyone having fun at home getting active.
Wake and Shake
Thanks to Rosalia and the PlayLeaders for leading fitness sessions for classes throughout the week. Great to get our bodies moving early in the day so our brains are ready for learning!
Yoga with Lorna and Katie
Sports Sessions with Andy, Neasa and Carla
Andy led sessions for our senior classes in hockey this week, while Neasa introduced hurling to 1st and 2nd and Carla got our Infant children practising football. A new set of skills for many. Well done everyone for taking part.
Football with Bohemians Football Club
A team of coaches from Bohemians Football Club came on Wednesday to run football sessions - the children were thrilled to practise their skills and show the coaches what they could do!
Sports Day
Unfortunately, our Sports Day couldn't take place on Thursday as planned as the weather was so poor. We have postponed to Monday 23rd and have our fingers crossed for some sunshine!
End of Year Reports - a video explanation
On Monday, you will be able to view your child's end of year report on Aladdin. These reports have been written by your child's class teacher to give you an overview of how your child has managed in school this year. They include really important things like your child listens in class, how they work with others and how they
For children from 1st - 6th Class, you will see the results of the standardised tests your child completed this year. Standardised tests measure how well your child is doing in reading and maths, compared to other children in Irish schools. Please remember that this is ONE way to measure your child's progress - there are many other ways too. Read the teacher's comments carefully - they will let you know how you can support your child at home.
What are Standardised Tests used for?
- Keep track of your child’s progress and plan teaching – teachers use the test results to see how each child is doing and to spot any areas where they might need extra help.
- Keep parents/carers informed – The scores give you a picture of how your child is doing compared to other children in the class and across the country.
- Improve the school – we use the results to review how well we are doing and find ways to make teaching even better.
International Food Fair
What a wonderful afternoon we had today at our International Food Fair. As always - you did not disappoint. Huge thanks to everyone who brought food and helped to create such a fabulous event for everyone to enjoy. There was so much delicious food and we are so grateful to all the families who went to such effort to share so much food for all of us. Thanks to Patricia, Kate and the Diversity team for coordinating!
Curious Minds - Gold Award
We are delighted to announce that we have won a Curious Minds Gold Award for our dedication to hands-on, curiosity-driven learning in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering. Maths). Our children have learned about lots of fascinating topics this year by conducting a range of practical STEM challenges. These engaging activities include design and make projects, math trails, rocket launches, Try5 STEM project, talking to astronauts, robotics and coding, and much more.
Special well done to Sile's Senior Infants and Greg's 3rd Class who took part in a special video to showcase our STEM learning, to teacher Catherine who spoke about our commitment to STEM learning and to Jawahir in 3rd Class who stole the show with a superb turn as a TV presenter! Thanks as always to Greg who has coordinated this work in our school for so many years.
