In Writing πŸ“ ...

In writing, students will be writing an informational essay about an animal who uses special skills to live outdoors year round. We will begin by reading a focal text called In November by Cynthia Rylant.

After reading the text, we will discuss the task, audience, and purpose of our writing. Next, we will go through the writing process of planning, drafting, editing, revising, and finally, publishing.

In Math βž•βž– ...

In math, students are encouraged to improve their math fact fluency using XtraMath.org. In February, they will continue exploring and learning the concept of finding area and perimeter. Students will connect their multiplication knowledge with this new concept.

For example, students will connect that the dimensions of a rectangle are equal to the square units within (i.e. my rectangle dimensions are 3 square inches by 7 square inches.) I know 3x7=21. Therefore, the area of my rectangle is 21 square inches.

To support your child at home, talk about what traits animals have that help them.
