Lindahl, Heiny Podium at Hoosier State Relays Indoor State Meet

On Saturday, the shot put boys from Richmond traveled to the Indiana State Fairgrounds to compete against the best throwers in the state at the Hoosier State Relays indoor state meet. Both boys qualified for finals, including a massive 56-0 personal-best from Jacob Lindahl. With his best throw from earlier counting toward his finals performance, Jacob landed on the podium in fifth place, followed close behind by Masson Heiny in seventh with a throw of 54-5. This marks their second appearance together at a State-level meet, with the goal of earning a spot at the IHSAA State meet in June firmly on their radar.

Excellent work, Jacob and Masson!

Parent Meeting

We will have our annual parent meeting on Monday, March 31st in the RHS Cafeteria. Can't be there? No problem. We will send out most of the information from the parent meeting soon afterward. However, we are required to have a parent meeting so that we can collaborate with parents. We are most concerned about having parent volunteers work the two home meets. If you know that you will be there and that you would like to help run an event (raking long jump, resetting high jump, measuring, etc.), please reach out to Coach Lambright ASAP at (765) 205-2647.

Senior Banner Pictures

Seniors, it's senior banner time! The photographer will be taking your photos Tuesday after school at 4:00 PM. Be prepared to bring $60 in cash or make checks out to H.Y.O. If $60 on short notice is a problem, please contact Coach Lambright directly to make arrangements. We want all seniors to get their photos on this day if there's even a chance that they will want a senior banner. Please be ready ASAP so that you can get your photos and immediately get ready for the meet.

Tri Meet vs. Connersville and Seton

Athlete report time is 3:45 PM. We have to warm up, set up hurdles, get field events ready, etc. We have a LOT to do. Showing up late hurts your team.

This is an everyone meet! This is all hands on deck, and we can use as much parent help as we can get, including backup timers (x4), help at the jumps, and more. Please reach out to Coach Lambright at (765) 205-2647 if you are able to help.

One thing that we want to emphasize: This is OUR meet and WE are in charge of all aspects related to setting and cleaning up. That means staying from start to finish and cleaning up is OUR responsibility as a team. Parents, please help us on this. I know it can be annoying to wait on your athlete after they are finished competing, but staying and supporting all athletes and clean-up as a team is important. Ditching your team when you are done personally during outdoor season especially at home is part of the culture we are trying to change.

Tim Wysong - Shot Put, Discus

Coach Tim Wysong is one of the longest-serving current assistant coaches at Richmond High School. He's been involved in the Richmond throwing program for over a decade and has coached three different athletes to the IHSAA State meet in shot put. A former thrower himself, Coach Wysong's affability and penchant for wrapping his fellow coaches up in bear hugs have made him one of the most stalwart cornerstones of the Richmond track and field program. Read on for more about Coach Wysong!

What do you love about coaching?

Forming life long relationships with the student athletes. And seeing the kids fall in love with throwing!

What are your hopes for this season?

My hope for the season is for every athlete to better themselves and enjoy the sport.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

Between being an athlete and a coach I've been involved in track for 17 years.

Attendance Policy

Track athletes are expected to be at practice Monday through Friday each week. Athletes should be communicating with their jobs about their schedule changes. A full schedule of track meets will be made available as soon as possible. If an athlete cannot make it to practice, communication is required. An athlete will receive three excused absences, after which they will meet with a coach about their attendance and further action will be determined. Parents and athletes can reach out to Coach Lambright via the Google Voice number (765) 205-2647.

Meet Schedule

The only other meet that is not on this list right now is the Carmel Distance Showcase, a 3200-meter only event that we will take at most 5 athletes to.

We are no longer looking for a meet on April 12th and do not expect the Union City 4-way that they were trying to put together to happen.

IHSAA Attendance Policy

Per IHSAA policy, an athlete cannot compete in a meet if they are not in attendance for at least half of the school day, which for Richmond would mean at least four periods. For our travelers from Puerto Rico, that may mean coming to school (on a Tuesday schedule!) on little sleep in order to meet those requirements for Tuesday's track meet. Athletes who do not plan on doing this should let Coach Lambright know at the earliest possible opportunity.

ParentSquare is our Official Contact Method

All parent contact should come through ParentSquare. If you are not on the ParentSquare feed for RHS track and field, please reach out to Coach Lambright at your earliest convenience. We will no longer be using Remind as Richmond Community Schools has moved to streamline parent communication and help parents not have ten different apps on their phones.

SportsYou Will Function as an Information Hub

While we would love to live in a world where we assume everyone will see all of our messages, we will continue to post workout plans and calendar events on SportsYou, something the cross country athletes and parents will be familiar with. You can join using the QR code on this paragraph, or by going to SportsYou.com and entering the code QYH8-WB4S. This will serve as a backup, always present information center, but all information on there will be duplicated here. The goal is to have one app that is always up to date, even when the next newsletter is a few days away.
