National Fire Prevention Week
National Fire Prevention Week will be held October 4-10 this year, with a theme of "Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower" (focuses on lithium-ion battery and device charging safety). Thursday, October 8th, the Dickinson Fire Department is holding a special presentation for our K-5 Berg students.
Starting next week, our counseling lessons will focus on PROMPT, the “P” in our P.A.W.S. expectations! Being PROMPT means being on time, ready to learn, moving with purpose, and practicing mindful listening. Throughout this unit, students will explore the question, “How do I get myself ready to learn and participate?” Lessons will vary by grade level and will include topics such as rules helping us, listening carefully, growth mindset, goals and motivation, optimizing our time, practicing self discipline, and many other skills that help students become successful learners.
Looking ahead, Red Ribbon Week is October 26–30! This year’s theme is “Be a Hero, Stay Drug Free.” Red Ribbon Week is a great opportunity for students to learn about making healthy choices and taking care of themselves. Be sure to check out the attached dress up day schedule and join us as we celebrate throughout the week!
Our 5th graders also recently participated in Career Day, where they had the opportunity to connect with companies and professionals from Dickinson, Stark County, and beyond. Students explored different careers and learned about training and education, income, skills, and what a day in various careers might look like. They had opportunities to learn through both conversations and hands on experiences. Students were also given a Career Passport to help them discover which career clusters different careers align with. If your student has not shared about Career Day yet, ask them “What was your favorite part?” You may be surprised by what career sparked their interest!
We are also excited to share a new resource for families: the North Dakota Behavioral Health Program Directory. This resource is designed to help North Dakota families, parents, and individuals locate behavioral health programs and services. The directory allows you to search for resources by city, county, insurance coverage, and more. Simply scan the QR code to access the directory and explore available resources all in one place. If you would like help navigating the directory, please reach out to Berg School Counseling. Mrs. Salgado and Mrs. Manning are happy to help!
We are cruising through our review concepts in all our music classes, playing instruments, and singing about fall! Students in grades 2-5 have been learning a drumming activity called “Boom
Boom, Share a Drum” on the tubanos. First graders have been reviewing high and low and playing songs on bell sets, and Kindergarten is learning about all kinds of instruments and getting to be student conductors.
As we look ahead to November, our 5th Graders will be performing for our school and their family and friends on Thursday, November 12th. The performance for family and friends will take place at 6:30 in the gym right here at Berg. The performance has a patriotic theme so we encourage students to wear red, white, and blue! More information will be coming home about the performance as we grow closer to this event. Please mark your calendar to ensure that all 5th graders can be present for the performance!
During the month of October, students will participate in PE activities that focus on moving their bodies safely and confidently. They will practice moving in open spaces, using locomotor skills such as running, jumping, hopping, and skipping, and participating in cooperative activities. Students will also work on including everyone on their team, following directions, and making safe choices while being active.
