September 2025
News from Dr. E
Dear Jefferson Families,
We are off to a strong start this school year! Thank you for partnering with us to help your children settle into routines and embrace learning each day. September is the perfect time to focus on two key areas of student success: routines and attendance.
Why Routines Matter
Children thrive when they know what to expect. Consistent home and school routines provide structure, reduce stress, and prepare students to fully engage in learning. Families play a big role in supporting these routines at home.
Here are four routines with the highest impact on student success:
🛌 1. Consistent Bedtime & Wake-Up
-
Ensure your child gets 9–11 hours of sleep.
-
A set bedtime and wake-up helps children arrive at school alert and ready to learn.
🎒 2. Morning Readiness
-
Pack backpacks and lunches the night before.
-
Encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast, either at home or at school.
📚 3. Homework & Reading Time
-
Set aside 20–30 minutes each evening for reading and homework.
-
Use a quiet space free from distractions.
đź“… 4. Daily Check-In
-
Review the school day with your child.
-
Talk about what went well, what was challenging, and what they’re looking forward to tomorrow.
Attendance Matters!
Every day counts at Jefferson Elementary. Did you know?
-
Missing just 2 days per month adds up to nearly a month of lost learning by the end of the year.
-
Students with good attendance perform better academically and build stronger friendships.
Please help us by:
âś… Scheduling appointments outside of school hours whenever possible.(Wednesdays are great days to schedule appointments after 2:30)
âś… Planning family trips during school breaks. (See graphic below for school breaks)
âś… Calling the office if your child must be absent.
Thank you for being our partners in learning.
One Proud Principal,
Dr. Tami Eshleman
