Hello & Happy April SBA Families! We hope your April is off to a great start. April is a busy month at Susan B. Anthony. We kicked off the month with Spring Break, and a great performance by our 4th & 5th Grade Orchestras and 5th Grade Band. Wow, these musicians have learned and grown a lot!!!

We look forward to our SCIENCE/STEM FAIR/ART SHOW/MULTICULTURAL FAIR, 2nd Grade Music Concert, and the Spring PTO Fundraiser (The EAGLE BUBBLE FUN RUN). April also brings the state assessment for our 3rd - 5th Grade students.

The SD State Assessment is given to 3rd - 5th Grade students in English Language Arts and Math. 5th Grade students also take the SD Science Assessment. These assessments provide us with information about our students progress toward their grade level learning standards. It's important for students to be well-rested before the test, eat a good breakfast, and to do their very best. These assessments adapt to the student's ability to determine the student's current highest level of performance. Our staff will review the results to determine how best to continue to educate and prepare our students to succeed in conjunction with other data we collect throughout the year. Thank you in advance for your help in ensuring your child comes to school each day, on time, and ready to learn and do their best!

MARK TWAIN TIME CAPSULE

Did you know that there is a time capsule buried next to Susan B. Anthony Elementary School? The time capsule was placed on May 20, 1976 by students and staff at the former Mark Twain Elementary School. Plans are currently being made to open the time capsule on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, which is our last day of school for this school year. We will have many former students, staff and families visiting our playground that morning to see and reminisce about the items they placed in their time capsule. Our current students and staff will be placing items in a new time capsule, which will be re-buried in the same place as the old one. It will be scheduled to be opened in May 2076, the year of our country's Tri-Centennial!

Spring Weather ~ Clothing Guidelines for Recess

Spring in South Dakota brings a wide variety of weather experiences and temperature ranges. From rain (and sometimes snow) to sunny skies, from very warm temperatures to very cold temperatures, each day is different. We strongly encourage students to wear a jacket if the temperature falls below 50 degrees. Please help your child by being sure they have a jacket or sweatshirt for the chilly April days. Thank you!

The Susan B. Anthony PTO continues to support our students and staff, while providing a variety of opportunities for families to engage at Susan B. Anthony. The PTO recently provided a conference meal for our hard-working SBA staff and the Book Fair for our families. These events are not possible without volunteers. We will have a big opportunity for volunteers coming up on May 1st when the PTO hosts our Bubble Fun Run fundraiser (our biggest fundraiser of the year!), and on May 15th when the PTO sponsors FAB FRIDAY for our students. You are encouraged to attend the April PTO meeting on Tuesday, March 30th to learn more. Volunteer sign up opportunities will also be sent via email closer to the events.

Science/STEM Fair ~ On April 10th, the PTO will host our annual Science/STEM Fair in conjunction with the SBA Art Show and Multicultural Event. Come and see the exhibits along with the Art Show and Multicultural Fair from 6:15 P.M. - 7:30 P.M.
Bubble Fun Run ~ Our biggest fundraiser of the year will be a BUBBLE FUN RUN this year. Students will have the opportunity to run as many laps as they can on our "tracks" and through some bubbles. We will kick off the Bubble Fun Run fundraiser on April 17th, and the Bubble Fun Run will be held on Friday, May 1st. Volunteers will be needed! Be looking for more information in mid April.
FAB FRIDAY ~ Plans are being finalized for our FAB FRIDAY celebration. We will have many opportunities for students to celebrate their learning this year. Activities include a dunk tank, games on the playground, and off-site activities (Bowling, Great Shots golf, and 605 Ninja) for 3rd - 5th Grade students. To be a success we will need many volunteers. Please mark your calendars for Friday, May 15th! More information to come!
