Stay in the Game Initiative Brings Titans Together
Our youngest Titans had a morning to remember in September! As part of the Stay in the Game initiative, high school athletes paid a special visit to elementary schools, bringing with them a burst of energy and positivity. The high school students welcomed the elementary Titans with smiles, high-fives, fist bumps, and plenty of encouragement as they arrived for the school day. This connection between the high school and elementary students not only brightened the morning but also strengthened the sense of Titan spirit throughout our district.
The Stay in the Game initiative is all about inspiring attendance, engagement, and teamwork. By creating moments like this, we are reinforcing the idea that every student, from our youngest to our oldest, is a valued Titan. What better way to kick off a day of learning than with a warm welcome from our high school student-athlete role models who understand the power of support and encouragement?

We are incredibly proud of her accomplishment and look forward to supporting her as she continues in the competition for a National Merit Scholarship. We wish her the best of luck as she moves forward in the National Merit Scholarship process.

October marks National Principals Month, and we are proud to honor the outstanding school leaders at Berea City Schools. We have amazing leaders who work so hard to make our schools a place where students can learn, grow, and succeed.
Our principals do so much more than manage our schoolsāthey are leaders, mentors, and advocates for our kids. They create welcoming environments where every student feels supported, valued, and encouraged to reach their potential. By building strong relationships with families, encouraging new ways to learn, and guiding teachers and staff, our principals make our schools the best they can be.
We are so grateful for our principals and everything they do for Berea City Schools!
Celebrating National Custodial Workers Day
October also marks National Custodial Workers Recognition Day to celebrate the incredible individuals who we truly would be a mess without! Their hard work ensures that our classrooms, hallways, and common areas are clean, healthy, and safe for students and staff.
Our custodians go above and beyond every day, and their efforts often go unnoticed. From early mornings to late nights, they are always there, making sure our schools are environments where students can learn, grow, and thrive.
Our custodians truly make our schools shine, and we are so grateful for everything they do! Thank you to our school staff, students, and PTAs who provided custodians with a special surprise!
Big Creek Elementary Teacher Monica Jochum Awarded Jean Armus Scholarship
Berea City School District is proud to celebrate the achievement of Monica Jochum, an Intervention Specialist, who has been awarded the prestigious Jean Armus Scholarship. This honor is in recognition of her dedication to supporting students with dyslexia and her commitment to expanding her professional knowledge.
The Jean Armus Scholarship will enable Monica to attend the 36th Annual Northern Ohio Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (NOBIDA) Dyslexia Symposium in Euclid, Ohio. The symposium is a significant event that brings together experts, educators, and advocates to share the latest research, tools, and strategies for supporting individuals with dyslexia. With this scholarship, Monica will have the opportunity to deepen her understanding and bring back valuable insights to help her students thrive.
Monica's passion for helping students with dyslexia is evident in her daily work, where she focuses on creating an inclusive environment that ensures every child has the resources they need to succeed. The NOBIDA Symposium will provide her with access to new strategies and interventions that she can implement in her classroom, benefiting not only her students but also the broader educational community in our district.
Congratulations to Monica Jochum on receiving this well-deserved scholarship! Her dedication to students is truly inspiring.
School Safety is Everyone's Responsibility
School safety is a top priority, and in today's world, even casual threats can have serious consequences. A single reckless action could lead to criminal charges, impact your reputation, and have lasting effects on your future. It's simply not worth the risk.
We all play a part in keeping our schools safeāstudents, parents, and community members alike. If you see something concerning, say something! You can report any threats or suspicious behavior through the free, anonymous Safer Ohio Tip Line at 844-SAFEROH.
Remember: think before you post. Be part of the solution, not the problem. Together, we can keep our schools safe for everyone.

The Berea Board of Education holds regular community conversations to give the public access to board members outside of the formal public participation setting of a meeting. Residents will have the opportunity to meet and discuss any concerns they may have with two board members during a 30 minute time-slot set aside prior to each regular scheduled Board of Education meeting. The goal of this effort is to more effectively connect with the public and learn more about the community.
