What a busy week at Eaton! Students and teachers jumped right back into learning as if there had never been a 3-week intercession! In addition, students started Battle of the Books and STRIDE this week! Parents -- please remember that if there is a change from normal afternoon transportation home, you need to send in a note. This helps keep all students safe.

As always, families should monitor the school's website, facebook page, and calendar for any additional up-to-date information.

We hope each of our students, staff, and families are as

excited as we are for everyone to return to school!

Jessica Liverman / Data Manager

ATTENDANCE: Our 1st quarter overall attendance rate as 95.94% across all grade levels. As we head into this 2nd quarter, let's raise our goal rate to 96.94%! The first week of the 2nd quarter's overall attendance rating was 95.92%.

This past week's attendance by grade level:

  • K: 96.40%
  • 1st: 95.58%
  • 2nd: 96.02%
  • 3rd: 96.96%
  • 4th: 95.11%
  • 5th: 95.42%

NEW INFORMATION: Per district guidelines, parents will see a new attendance code for all early unexcused checkouts. This new code, 2P: Unexcused Early Checkout (an absence resulting from a student leaving before the end of the school day for unlawful reasons) will be applied unless families provide medical appointment documentation or some acceptable form of an excused note. This code should be used for any student who checks out after the half-day mark and does not have documentation for a lawful reason. If documentation is provided for a lawful reason, the code will be changed to 1P- Early Check-Out. Please note that students checked out before the halfway point of the school day will be marked absent, either excused or unexcused, based on the reason for the checkout.

It's time for the Staff Coffee Cart to start making its rounds for the second quarter. There are still opportunities to donate items if you are interested in giving the teachers a little morning treat. October's date is next Friday, October 23, and then the November and December dates are the last Wednesdays we are in session for each of those months. Check out the Signup Genius link!

Coffee Cart Donations

Also, our first Eaton School Store was a huge success! Students enjoyed being able to spend their Eaton dollars on various items. Many even saved some of their money to hopefully purchase more expensive items this quarter. Speaking of items, please consider a donation to our store. With 470 students shopping, it is a busy store and needs to be restocked. Thank you so much to those who have already donated some items for our next shopping event in December. It is greatly appreciated!

Volunteering within New Hanover County Schools

  • Volunteers must schedule their support time with a staff member before coming to Eaton.

Volunteer training must be completed EVERY year for Level I -- This means that you want to come in to the school, have lunch with your student, and support students and staff! Please click the shared link and review the NHCS Volunteer Orientation and complete the Volunteer Orientation Assessment. This is Level I volunteering!

Level II: This is required every three (3) years -- this means you want to attend a field trip! This requires an application, background check and approval at district level. Remember, while you may have a current Level 2, you are still required to complete Level 1 every year before volunteering.

To attend or chaperone a field trip, volunteers must have both Level I and Level II status.
