Attendance Policy

Students who have an unexcused absence from after school rehearsal will not perform at halftime at the football game this week. Please communicate any conflicts that you have with band rehearsals. We will work with your schedule to find solutions.

Region Jazz Auditions Upcoming

We signed up 26 students for Region Jazz. We will post the list in Google classroom so you can check if you are signed up. The fee for Region jazz is $20. Auditions will be on September 20th at LaVernia High School. Transportation will be provided. Go practice!

Private Lessons and Masterclasses

We are proud to offer private lessons and masterclasses on nearly all instruments. If you are interested in signing your student up for private lessons, please email Mr. Lehmann.

Eligibility

On Friday, the 3 weeks progress report went out. Parents, please check your students' grades and contact their teachers if you have any questions. The band staff is committed to making sure our students pass our classes. Tutoring is permitted on practice days as long as students bring a pass from tutoring when they were done.

Starting this week, the band staff will begin interventions for students who are failing their classes. Actions we may take are:

  • Printing students' grades for them
  • Contacting parents of students who have a failing grade
  • Requiring students to attend tutoring during the week for the class they are failing
  • Assigning a "B" performer to a student that is failing

Here are some important bullet points about Eligibility in regards to extracurricular activities such as marching band.

  • A student who fails on the 6 week or 9 week progress report / report card will be ineligible to travel with / perform with the band.
  • Grades are determined based on the "snapshot" taken at the end of the day on these days. If a student turns in an assignment afterward or does test corrections, the "snapshot" is not changed- the student is still failing
  • Most students who fail are failing because of 0's in the gradebook- missing assignments
  • Teachers are much more likely to work with you to help you with makeup work if you communicate absences ahead of time
  • No pass, No play is a statewide rule that affects all extracurricular activities. No exceptions will be made to UIL No pass, No Play.

Alternates / Shadows

Students will be assigned one of the following roles in our 2025 marching production, "Wanderlust".

  • Primary spot (A) with no shadow (all percussionist are As)
  • Primary spot (A) with an alternate (B shadow) they are sharing their spot with
  • Alternate or shadow (B) who is shadowing someone who has the primary spot (A)

All students are required to be at all rehearsals and performances. Here is the performance schedule for students that are sharing spots. Please note that some A's / B's may swap performance roles for the first game based on individual readiness. Click the "A/B performance schedule" tab at the bottom of the page. Students assigned a primary spot will perform all marching contests and alternates assist with props and other technical aspects of the show. All students are essential to putting on the production. Students sharing a spot take turns performing at football games. I made one adjustment to the schedule that breaks away from taking turns at football games to allow alternates the opportunity to perform at a home football game on October 31st.

Like all bands, we carry alternates so we have students to fill in holes for eligibility and injuries. Every year multiple alternates or B shadows are asked to fill in primary spots (A) in our show. We also need students to assist with props and other technical aspects of the show at marching contest. Every student is vital to producing an enjoyable and successful marching show at Davenport.

One final note - alternates are trained to be completely confident in their ability to perform in a varsity spot when they are ready. Many programs do not have their alternates perform the show, and I am proud that we give all students an opportunity to perform the show multiple times, including at a home football game. We teach all students with the same effort and passion. We appreciate the efforts of our students and the support of our parents more than we can adequately express.

Color Guard only

Guard alternates will switch out on the same schedule as the winds until we finish learning the show. Once we finish the show we will begin adding in the B shadows into the show for a few key moments so all the performers get a chance to be one the field at our final contests.

Hosting US Bands Contest October 4th

On Saturday, October 4th, the Wolf Band will be hosting the USBands San Antonio Regional Marching Contest. We are looking for any and all volunteers that would be willing to donate their time to ensure the competition is a success! The Sign Up Genius for volunteer jobs will be sent out soon!
