Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 15th May 2026
A Big Week for Year 6!
A huge well done to all of our Year 6 pupils for their fantastic effort and positive attitude during SATs week. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, determination and resilience they have shown throughout the week. The children approached each test with maturity, and they should all be proud of their positive attitude. Thank you also to our staff and families for their support and encouragement. Now it is time for Year 6 to relax and enjoy the exciting activities still to come this term!
Eco Monitors
Our Year 3 and 4 Eco Monitors have been busy planting wildflowers in the school grounds to help support local biodiversity. Wildflowers provide an important habitat and food source for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, which play a vital role in keeping our environment healthy. By creating these colourful spaces, pupils are learning about sustainability, caring for nature, and the importance of protecting wildlife for future generations.
Well done to this week's stars.
Nursery – Grayson for persevering with trying new foods; it has been lovely to see him trying new things. Also Dylan for being a really helpful member of nursery.
Reception – Archie H, for showing amazing teamwork, working with a partner to solve tricky puzzles. He has shown brilliant turn taking and sharing when playing board games.
Year 1 – Layla S, for her hard work in geography this week. Layla showed fantastic effort and made super contributions during both our indoor and outdoor learning about human and physical features.
Year 2 – David, for fantastic participation in geography and science units. David has shared his comprehensive knowledge with the class and it has been lovely to see his passion come through!
Year 3 – Henry, for having a fantastic attitude to his learning, getting straight on to a task, especially challenging himself at maths. His enthusiasm has encouraged others in the class too!
Year 4 – Natasza, for her excellent newspaper report ideas, particularly her eyewitness statements, and always being ready to learn.
Year 5 – Jojo, for really impressing us this week with her attitude to learning, being a really good role model in class and developing some lovely ideas for the ghost story in English.
Year 6 - ALL OF YEAR 6! For having a fantastic attitude all week during SATS and showing such determination throughout.
Reminder: Sports Day Arrangements - Thursday 21st May
Arrangements will be the same as last year with the EYFS sports day beginning at 9am straight after drop off. KS1 and KS2 will begin their sports day at 1:30pm.
Please note that we politely insist on no photography or filming, and also that everyone is prepared for postponement if the weather is bad. Thank you in advance.
Nursery and Reception Sports Day - Morning of Thursday 21st May
Sports Day will start as near to 9am as possible, straight after registration, and will last approx. 30 - 45 mins. If children could please arrive in shorts and t-shirts, with a hat, sunscreen applied and a water bottle and appropriate footwear.
For Nursery children who do not normally attend on a Thursday, we ask that parents drop their children at the classroom (please inform a member of staff ahead of the day if you will be doing this). Parents may then stay for the duration of the event and collect their children straight afterwards from the classroom. We are unable to keep the children for the full morning session of nursery if they do not usually attend due to maintaining staffing ratios.
An area for parents to stand will be taped off so ensure you all have a brilliant view of the athletes, and we are looking forward to the children showing you how hard they have been practising.
Year 1 to Year 6 Sports Day - Afternoon of Thursday 21st May
Children should come to school in their PE kits, plus sunhats and sunscreen as appropriate. Parents will be able to enter the school grounds around 1:20pm and events will start at 1:30. There will be areas set aside for parents to watch, and you are welcome to bring camping chairs or picnic blankets.
Reminder: Before School Arrangements
Please remember that pupils remain the responsibility of parents and carers until they are handed over to class teachers at 8.45am. Children should not be left unsupervised on the playground before this time.
The exception to this is for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils who walk to school independently. However, if behaviour before school is not acceptable, parents and carers will be contacted and will be expected to supervise their children before school in future.
We also ask that children do not play with school equipment or bring footballs and other balls to use before school, as there are no staff first aiders on duty at this time.
Thank you for your support in helping us keep all children safe before the school day begins.
Educational Visits Meeting
We would like to invite all parents and carers of pupils currently in Year 3 and Year 4 to a meeting regarding the Year 5 and 6 residential visits. The meeting will take place on Wednesday 3rd June at 5pm and will outline key information about the Year 5 residential visit to Lindisfarne which will take place 23rd-25th September 2026 and the Year 6 residential to London, which has been booked for 18th-20th November 2026. There will be the opportunity to find out more about what each visit entails and to ask any questions you may have.
