Parent Drop off and Pick Up Procedures Reminders
Morning Drop off – It is not necessary to wait in the car until you get to the open gate. If the line of cars is stopped along the sidewalk between the main gate and the middle gate, students should exit the car and walk to the main gate. Cars should not be stopped in any one location for more than a few seconds for the student to exit the car on the sidewalk side. Please do not get out of your car to go into the office; if a parent needs to exit the car, the parent should park in a parking spot or on El Paseo.
Afternoon pick up – it has gotten better and quicker since the first week of school. Again, this school was built in 1958 and was not designed for this type of traffic.
Walkers/Parents who wait for walkers – you must wait on the office side of the main gate. Please do not hang out and wait near the gate or on the grassy area if you are meeting your walker. Meet in front of the office or along the sidewalk on El Paseo. Observe city and school traffic guidelines, please. Cross at the cross walks, please.
Trunk or Treat
We will be holding our Oasis Trunk or Treat Event on October 30th from 5-6 p.m. at Oasis Elementary School.

Attendance Matters
Oasis Elementary School's attendance improved slightly in September. Please remember the importance of your student coming to school every day on time. Tardies have increased and this also impacts student success. School begins at 8:40 a.m.
Why School Attendance Matters for Your Child
-
Everyday Builds Learning 📚
Each school day introduces new skills and knowledge. Missing even a few days can create learning gaps that are hard to fill later. -
Attendance = Achievement 🎯
Students who attend school regularly do better in reading, math, and writing. Consistent attendance helps them stay on track with grade-level expectations. -
Building Good Habits 🕒
Arriving at school on time every day teaches responsibility, time management, and reliability—skills that will benefit your child throughout life. -
Social Connections 🤝
School isn’t just about academics. Children also build friendships, learn teamwork, and practice problem-solving with their peers. Frequent absences can make it harder to connect socially. -
Confidence and Belonging 🌟
Being present helps children feel like part of the class community. They’re more confident when they don’t have to catch up on missed lessons. -
Future Success 🚀
Strong attendance habits in elementary school lay the foundation for middle school, high school, and beyond—helping your child succeed in education and career.
✅ Tip for Parents/Guardians: Try to schedule doctor’s appointments, trips, and other activities outside of school hours whenever possible.
PBIS Corner
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.
PBIS is about creating a positive, predictable, and safe school environment where all students can learn and thrive.
Here are the key parts of PBIS:
-
Prevention first – Instead of waiting for misbehavior to happen, schools create systems to prevent it.
-
Clear expectations – Schools define and teach a small set of behavior expectations.
-
Positive reinforcement – Students are recognized and rewarded for meeting expectations.
-
Data-driven – Schools collect data on behavior to decide what’s working and what needs adjusting.
-
Tiered supports –
-
Tier 1: Support for all students (school-wide expectations, recognition).
-
Tier 2: Extra help for students who need more support (like check-in/check-out).
-
Tier 3: Intensive, individualized support for students with significant behavior needs.
-
The majority of our major referrals are for fighting on the playground or during PE. Please talk with your students about the importance of keeping their hands to themselves.
The majority of our minor incidents are occurring in the classrooms. Incidents include using profanity, disrespectful language towards other students and staff, and classroom disruptions that impact the learning of the other students.
Please remind students of the importance of using appropriate language, using kinds words, or even just trying to ignore students that "annoy" them.
