Note from the principal
Hello Hixson Families,
Tuesday was a very exciting day in my house. Much to the dismay of my kiddo, her country club life came to a halt when the alarm went off at 6am. The consolation was she was going back to school and the excitement of seeing her friends and teachers made up for the earlier morning wake up. As we hustled through our morning routines with one eye on the clock to make sure we weren’t late, she went on and on about all the things she missed about school. She listed the teachers she would see and the friends she would give a big hug and kiss. Charlotte is three (going on 20) and still learning that not everyone wants a kiss. It is through the eyes of a child that reminds me how important the first day is and I hope that she is this excited about school every year. I hope your kiddos had a good first day too.
Our first week at Hixson is well underway and it has been an exciting start. Over the summer, 32 classrooms were moved to reorganize our building to make it better for kids. If you have a teacher in your life, you will understand what a very big deal this is. Over the years, teachers nest and gather and don’t throw things away. We keep everything because you just never know when you might need it. Packing up and moving was a big deal not only for the teachers but for our phenomenal custodial team. Michelyn, Montay, Robert, Logan, Keith and Michael moved all of our rooms while also following their normal summer deep clean routine. They are an amazing layer of the Hixson family and we truly would be lost without them. Teachers then got the clearance to move back into their rooms two weeks before our Open House Social. They worked tirelessly painting, unpacking, and decorating their rooms to make it feel special. The work is ongoing as communities will build through the year but we hope kids feel how much we love them.
As I enter my second year with the Hixson Family, I’m very excited about how our school landscape is changing and growing. I look forward to connecting with kids and families and grateful for the privilege of serving kids in Webster.
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year.
With gratitude,
Grace
