60 SECONDS WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT

Chapman Elementary 5th Graders are delivering school news to their friends and classmates every day through their Morning Announcements “crew.” This group of students design their own backgrounds on the green screen, select background music, and operate the camera and teleprompter to keep Chapman up to date on birthdays, lunch menus, and other important school news. REVISED 2025-2026 ACADEMIC CALENDAR

PLEASE NOTE:
At last month's Board of Education meeting, a revision to the 2025-26 academic calendar was approved. One reason for the revision was to correct an error that was recently discovered with the previously approved calendar. The error occurred in our day count for April 2026. We had accounted for 18 student days when there were only 16.

We had to determine where to add back those 2 days. We didn’t want to shorten winter or spring break, and adding a 2-day week to the end of the school year in June was not desirable. Therefore, the finalized option was to add them to the start of the school year. To add back in those 2 missed instructional days, the only change made was to start 2 days earlier in August. Students will now start the same week, but on a Monday instead of a Wednesday.

In addition to this correction, we also updated the date of Commencement to reflect the change that we have implemented this year to move to the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend. Click HERE to access the updated and approved 2025-26 calendar.

We apologize for the error and changes to the calendar. It is our hope that this change does not disturb your plans for the final days of summer break.

Thank you for your understanding.

NEW ROOFS AT CHAPMAN & WHITNEY SCHEDULED FOR THIS SUMMER

At last week’s meeting, the Board of Education approved a plan to replace the roofs at both Chapman and Whitney Elementary Schools at an approximate cost of $2.2 million.

Our District has a detailed plan to keep our buildings updated, in order to provide safe environments for our students and staff, while remaining fiscally responsible and working with the resources and funding we currently have available. Capital improvements, such as new roofs, are critical repairs for our elementary buildings due to increasing enrollment and the age of our buildings. As more repairs become necessary, our District will continue to evaluate and address these issues in a thoughtful and forward-looking way.

STRONGSVILLE ATHLETICS ADMINISTRATORS RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING WORK

Mr. Denny Ziegler and Mr. Jason Keppler - SHS Athletic Director and SHS Assistant Athletic Director / SMS Athletic Director, respectively - were honored this week at the annual Northeast Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NEOIAAA) awards luncheon. Each year, the Executive Committee of the NEOIAAA honors various athletic administrators and other professionals who have contributed outstanding service to interscholastic athletics in Northeast Ohio. The recipients of the award are nominated by association members, and honorees are selected by the awards committee made up of NEOIAAA executive committee members.

Mr. Ziegler was one of four high school athletic directors to be recognized as “Athletic Director of the Year.” Mr. Keppler was awarded “Middle School Athletic Director of the Year.”

Congratulations on these well-deserved awards!

MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - LAURA MARLOWE, 3RD GRADE TEACHER AT CHAPMAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Mrs. Laura Marlowe has worked as an elementary school teacher in our District for 23 years. Mrs. Marlowe has taught at Whitney and Muraski, and is currently teaching 3rd grade at Chapman Elementary. Her undergraduate degree is from Baldwin Wallace and she also earned her graduate degree from Marygrove College.

“I enjoy fostering a classroom learning environment that nurtures independence, connection, creativity, and curiosity. The dynamic nature of no day being exactly the same and those ‘aha moments’ where a student overcomes a struggle or perseveres are priceless and fulfilling. I love watching the students grow as readers and thinkers who are motivated to keep learning and are proud of themselves.”

“Chapman is truly a family away from home. The dedicated staff and support staff all have such big hearts and a genuine passion for teaching. Everyone at Chapman is so collaborative and kind. As a building, we find collective ways to engage and motivate all students to be successful, supported, safe, and happy at school.”

“Seeing my past students out in the community, running into them as they progress in their education throughout the buildings, and seeing them grow into talented, successful people pursuing their dreams and navigating the world with confidence and purpose brings me joy and reminds me of my "why" I teach. I love when I see them, their siblings, or families, and get updates on all of the wonderful things they are achieving and accomplishing. It's also so heartfelt when they speak fondly of their time in my classroom and recall special memories they've carried with them throughout the years of a moment we shared.”

Thank you Mrs. Marlowe for continuing to make a positive impact on your students!

SMS 6TH GRADE SCIENCE TEACHER JOHN LIPOWSKI RECOGNIZED BY PTA COUNCIL WITH AWARD

SMS 6th Grade Science Teacher Mr. John Lipowski was recently recognized by Strongsville Council PTA with the ‘T in PTA Award.’ This annual award celebrates an SCS staff member and their efforts in going above and beyond in the lives of our District’s students. Part of his nomination included these thoughts about Mr. Lipowski: “John teaches with heart, purpose, and intention. He’s not just 'on the train' of curriculum delivery - he gets off the train, helping his students pause, explore, and truly engage with science in ways that inspire wonder and critical thinking. His classroom is an immersive experience where students don’t just learn about science - they DO science. Whether it’s through hands-on labs, real-world simulations, or collaborative community projects, John turns content into connection.” Mr. Lipowski was also recognized by the Ohio Senate for receiving this award - Congratulations "Mr. Lip!"

(L to R) Dr. Cameron Ryba (SCS Superintendent), Mrs. Tera Thomas (SMS 6th Grade Principal),
