CCA's January Character Trait: Kindness
The January character trait of the month at CCA is kindness. I asked three students what kindness means to them. Matthew in 8th grade said, “Kindness means being nice to other people.” Grey in 4th grade said, “Being nice to someone, treating them how you would want to be treated and treating them how God would want you to treat them is kindness. Seth in 5th grade said, “Being nice to someone" is kindness. Kindness is shown to increase self-esteem, empathy and compassion, and improve mood. --Miyah

CCA Chapel ⛪
On Friday morning the worship team led students in the singing of three songs. The seniors opened chapel with pledges to the American flag, Christian flag and Bible. A prayer was said for Mr. Campos, who is currently overseas on a mission trip. Lastly, the senior class presented their chapel video. Please click on the following link to view it. https://youtu.be/8CxzELWJfEg
Survey Says:
This week we surveyed students to find out if they would rather go to the beach, or go to the mountains? Out of the 78 students surveyed, the beach, which received 46 votes, was the clear winner. I personally prefer the beach because it is warm and you get to play in the sand. Did you know that scientists have only explored 5% of the ocean? Imagine what else is in the other 95%! –Sophia
Class Spotlight: Personal Finance
Kynlee sat in on the HS Personal Finance class this week to see what they are learning. Mr. Neal was talking about the difference between renting an apartment or house and owning. He was telling students that rent rates can go up, but house payments will stay the same. When you rent you may not be able to paint a room, take down a wall, or put in a garden bed. He also said that you should always read the lease agreement carefully before you sign it, because the fine print may not be what you thought.
Students watched a video on buying a house. The video talked about how you should get a 15 year mortgage instead of a 25 or 30 year one. Parker explained what that meant to the class. The video also told students some questions to ask when looking to buy a house. While students watched the video, they completed a corresponding page in their workbooks.
Friday was the last day of Personal Finance, as it is only a 1/2 year class, which is needed to graduate High School. Below is a photo of the class on the final day; students are apparently going to miss the instructor in the video! --Kynlee

On Tuesday, January 21st, the CCA Patriots played the Bethel llamas from Grandview. There were 3 teams that played that evening; junior high boys, varsity girls, and varsity boys. The junior high boys started the night. The Patriots had a hard time making shots. The score of the first quarter was 2-12. At half time bethel was still in the lead; the score was 5-20. CCA went on an 11-8 run in the third quarter, making the score 16-28. Bethel was too much in the 4th quarter; final score was 27-37.
The girls varsity game started slow. The score of the first quarter was 7-10 Bethel. The Patriots were able to take the lead by half time; the score was 13-10. The third quarter ended with a score of 19-15, CCA still holding the lead. The Lady Patriots came alive in the fourth quarter and went on a 16-7 run, making the final 35-22.
The boys varsity team started off strong. At the end of the first quarter the score was 14-9 CCA. At half time the score was close, 25-22, CCA was still in the lead. By the end of the third quarter Bethel was winning 34-36. The final score of the game was 50-51; Bethel won. -Carissa
5/6 Boys & Girls vs St. Peter 1/23
On Thursday, January 23rd, the 5th & 6th grade teams hosted St. Peter from Marshall. Going into this game, the Lady Patriots were undefeated on the season with a 8-0 record. In this game however, shots were not falling and the Patriots were unable to hold off the Mustangs from scoring. The final score was 12-26 Mustangs on top. Even though the loss was tough, the girls are working hard in practice to improve their offense, defense and shooting.
The CCA 5th and 6th grade boys played St. Peter well. They seemed to be able to keep the Mustangs from rebounding and their shooting was good on the evening. The Patriots won, 30-22. –Carissa
