Hi Everyone,

Sign ups for our spring parent-teacher conferences begin on Wednesday, March 25th. Look our for more information coming from your child’s team. Conferences will be offered on Wednesday, April 8th from 2:30 to 7 and Wednesday, April 15th from 2:30 to 7. Sign-ups will close on Friday, April 3rd.

As we close out the second trimester, we want to thank everyone who is working together to improve attendance. We saw a significant reduction in the number of students tardy to school. We appreciate your support!

Two Future Business Leaders of America members (and YMS alumni) Cooper Dodge and Piper Catanese recently reached out to share information about their upcoming Spring Cleanout/Swap to benefit York students. The event will take place on March 28 at York High School, and a flyer is included below. Thank you for considering a donation in support of this wonderful project.

Sincerely,

Tim & Tisha

Grade 8 Students Visit State House Grade 8 Students Visit State House

This week two of our 8th grade students, Owyn Alfis and Grady Kiernan, served as honorary pages in the Maine House of Representatives. Owyn and Grady were chosen by YMS social studies teachers, and were hosted by representative Holly Sargent of York. Both students were thrilled to be even a small part of Maine's One Hundred and Thirty Second Maine Legislature and they learned a great deal via their active participation in helping the communication on the floor to run smoothly.

From School Nurse Mrs. Anderson From School Nurse Mrs. Anderson

We have seen an increase in illness recently and would like to share a few reminders to help prevent the spread of illness within our school community. We appreciate your partnership in keeping students and staff healthy.

Please keep your child home if they are experiencing any of the following:

  • Fever of 100.4°F or higher (students should remain home until they are fever-free overnight without the use of fever-reducing medication)

  • Vomiting or diarrhea (remain home for 24 hours after the last episode)

  • Persistent cough or difficulty breathing

  • Sore throat accompanied by fever or upset stomach

  • Any contagious illness diagnosed by a healthcare provider

In general, if your child is not feeling well enough to fully participate in the school day, it is best for them to rest and recover at home.

If your child is diagnosed with strep throat, influenza, or another contagious illness, please notify the school nurse by email at manderson@yorkschools.org or by calling 207-363-4214. This helps us monitor illness trends and provide appropriate guidance to our school community.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a healthy school environment. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

The YMS staff is continuing to recognize the good things students do at YMS! Staff use the YMS HOWLS of Respect, Responsibility, and Perseverance along with the School Theme of "Challenge Accepted" to guide them in what they are looking for in order to nominate a student. Students who are recognized are listed in weekly newsletters, on the TV in the cafeteria of YMS, during our morning announcements, and will earn entry to a prize announced at our quarterly assembly. They also receive a paper certificate from the adult who nominated them telling them why they were recognized. Please help us thank these students for bringing positivity to YMS!

Join us in recognizing the students who were named Wicked Good Wildcats this week:

Violet Gould, Clive Pucko, Lachlan Doherty, Landon Drobish, Jacob Caracoglia, Parker Rand, Shane Cloutier, Clementine Dunn, Izzy Woods, Evie Masi, Lucy Macaluso, Presley Olson, Cade Wanier, Kevin Drobish, and Teagan Dignam.
