On Thursday, Mr. Jones hosted our Catawba Festival, aka Project WET. We had students from Miller over to Alder. Our students showed them stations on eco- conservation, water cycles, and the environment. They played games with these themes and had a great time learning how to protect our environment and community with greater care. Thank you to the volunteers and teachers who participated. It was another successful event.
Our students went on a trip to ACIT with Mr. Spence and Ms. Riis on Wednesday. They made Strawberry Shortcake and learned about culinary arts from the teachers and students there.

Teacher Feature
Mr. Warner - Gifted and Talented Teacher
What is your position at Alder? What brought you here? How long have you been here?
I teach the gifted and talented classes. I also coach the Quiz Bowl team and run the spelling bee and the science fair. I grew up in EHT, so when I decided to get into teaching, this is where I wanted to teach. I've been teaching here for twenty years! I spent my first eleven years teaching 6th grade. Back then, each teacher taught all the subjects. I've been teaching GT for the past nine years.
What is or has been one of your favorite things about Alder?
My favorite thing about Alder has to be the people here. It's more fun to come to school when you have awesome coworkers and students.
What do you think will be your greatest challenge this year?
I think all the changes with the schedule were a challenge at first, but everyone eventually adjusted, and I'm glad sixth graders will now be on the same schedule as 7th and 8th graders.
Where did you go to school? What degree did you earn?
For K-12, I went to school in EHT. I graduated from EHT High School. For college, I went to a small school in Pennsylvania called Ursinus College. I didn't actually plan to be a teacher at first, and my degree was in Biology. When I later decided to become a teacher, I got my certification at Rowan.
