MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

CHS Community,

It has been a very quiet week at Chardon High School, which is appreciated as we settle into the second quarter. Thank you to all the parents who attended conferences over the past few weeks. Your engagement and partnership are part of what makes Chardon’s home-school connection so strong, and it directly contributes to the success of our students.

PM Pick-Up:
This week, I’ve received several communications regarding aggressive driving during afternoon pick-up. After observing the process myself, I agree that some unsafe driving practices are occurring. Moving forward, I will ask Officer Elam to monitor the transitions during pick-up to ensure everyone’s safety.

I understand that many parents aim to be among the first in line to pick up their students and leave the property before buses depart. To help with understanding, here is a timeline of our PM pick-up process:

  • 2:40 PM: Dismissal begins, and students start leaving their classrooms/buildings. ALL students have departed the building within 2-4 minutes.
  • 2:48 PM: Parent traffic typically flows smoothly at this point. NO TRAFFIC line in front of the school
  • 2:50-52 PM: Buses depart from CHS.

With a 12-minute window between dismissal and bus departure, there is ample time for parents to pick up their students safely without the need for aggressive driving. Please remember that the safety of all students, staff, and families is our top priority.

At each 2024 home game, CVCA Football will be working to use the large gathering that a high school game provides to help fight hunger in local communities by inviting all participants (Players, coaches, home fans, visiting fans) to contribute to a food collection that will be donated to a local food pantry each week.

CVCA parents will oversee the collection of all items just inside the ticket gate. Look for signage with the logo above.

IMPORTANT ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION for CCP STUDENTS IMPORTANT ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION for CCP STUDENTS

Due to changes in FERPA expectations and athletic eligibility, ALL students taking CCP classes must have their Quarter 1 grades verified by their Professor(s). This includes classes taken within Chardon High School taught by our teachers, CCP classes taken off campus at Lakeland/Lake Erie/Kent, and CCP classes taught online.

The CCP Eligibility Report Sheet is available in Guidance and Athletics. Students must have passing grades within their CCP classes, verified by their Instructors, at the end of each Quarter in order to be eligible for the proceeding Quarter. These are the same eligibility expectations for students taking non-CCP courses.

Students taking our in-house CCP classes will be given this form the week of 10/28. Students taking CCP classes off campus are responsible for picking up the form. Forms must be returned to Doug Higham in person or via email to douglas.higham@chardonschools.org.
