A Message From Your Principal A Message From Your Principal

Dear Cedar Point Champion Cheetah Families,

I would like to extend a special congratulatory message to Mrs. Sheryl Sisk, Administrative Assistant, who will retire at the conclusion of this school year. Mrs. Sisk has been instrumental in keeping the operations of Cedar Point organized and safe for the past 20 years. We appreciate Mrs. Sisk’s many years of service to the Champion Cheetah community. Please join me in wishing Mrs. Sisk the very best during her retirement years beginning June 30!

March’s celebration of “Arts in our Schools Month" successfully highlighted the significant talents of our students and staff. Mrs. Garber (art), Mrs. Ro (music), Mr. Runolfson (strings) and Mrs. LaFleur (drama), are recognized for fostering student expression through creativity and enhancing the critical thinking skills of all students. Thank you also to our parents and families who volunteer many long hours to support our art, music and theatre events!

As we continue our journey through April, I would like to recognize our Cedar Point teachers and staff for consistently keeping your students engaged, learning and excited about school. We believe in the potential of every child and remain dedicated to providing a comprehensive education to prepare all students for future opportunities. With your steadfast partnership, our school family remains committed to ensuring every child feels valued, connected and inspired to reach their full potential.

Finally, thank you to our Cedar Point PTO for hosting a variety of student after-school programs this year. We also thank our PTO for always surprising our faculty and staff with refreshments and treats. We are grateful for your continued support.

May you have restful Spring Break!

Warmly,

Aerica A. Williams, M.Ed., Principal

Our Boosterthon Fun Run on March 5 was moved indoors due to inclement weather and became a GLOW Run! Our students in every grade level, Pre-K through 5, were able to participate - running laps and cheering one another on, all while laughing and dancing...and earning money to support our school!

Through the Boosterthon program, Cedar Point was able to raise more than $20,000 towards new classroom and library furniture to benefit all students! Way to go, Champion Cheetahs, and thank you to all of the family and friends who donated to support our school fundraiser!

Make sure to check out more photos from the event day on our Cedar Point Elementary Facebook page.

Celebrating Newsies Jr. Celebrating Newsies Jr.

Newsies cast
In March, our cast of 34 talented students performed four audience-packed shows on the Cedar Point stage, bringing the streets of 1899 New York City to Bristow in Disney Newsies Jr.

These 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students auditioned and began rehearsals for the musical in September, and performed an all-school dress rehearsal assembly in advance of the opening night and weekend shows. We are so proud of our cast of students and loved watching their confidence shine on stage!

Thank you to Mrs. LaFleur and her amazing production team, crew, and parent and former-student volunteers for the countless hours dedicated to creating another magical Cedar Point Drama production for our community!

Way to go, Battle of the Books team, and thank you to Ms. D'Amato and Mrs. Brazier for their support and leadership of this excellent team!

Pre-K

Our morning and afternoon Pre-K classes have been having lots of fun together in March! We celebrated in green on St. Patrick's Day, enjoyed running laps in the Boosterthon Fun Run in the big gym and have been working on increasing our building skills in class. We're looking forward to a fun and exciting spring playing and learning together!

Kindergarten

We've moved again! Kindergarteners were excited to get back to their original (and newly remodeled!) classrooms in March.

We've also been really enjoying our Reading Buddy time! On Fridays, our fourth and fifth grade students work with our kindergarten classes on their reading skills. We love seeing the bond and community that our classes have created this year through this time together.

1st graders celebrate Pi Day!
zoom_out_map

1st Grade

Did you know first graders have BIG opinions?! Part of our writing unit this month was about sharing opinions and providing supporting details to justify those opinions. Ask a first grader what their favorite season is, their favorite sport, their favorite color and more - don't forget to ask them WHY!

March was an exciting month as first graders put on their chef hats and celebrated Pi Day by making paper fraction pizza pies! We also sharpened our math skills by counting and graphing the different marshmallows in Lucky Charms cereal for St. Patrick's Day!

2nd Grade

In March, our second graders enjoyed the "Learn Not to Burn" fire safety program brought to us by the Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department. Students also practiced their cursive writing skills to earn their "cursive license" and enjoyed hands-on science experiments relating to the different states of matter.

This month, our second graders have a lot of learning to look forward to! We are learning about procedural writing and poetry during writing time, and will be practicing inferencing and asking/answering questions in reading. In social studies, we will be learning about American Indians and civics, and in math , we will be working on fractions!

3rd graders on a field trip to the Udvar-Hazy Center
zoom_out_map

3rd Grade

Our third graders visited the Udvar-Hazy Center today to explore the world of airplanes, space shuttles and force and motion on Mar. 19.

We searched for animals in the sky by following clues to find planes in our scavenger hunt. Then, we went to the IMAX theater where we explored our underwater world and the way animals support each other and our life on earth. We also had time to wander and discover more of the air crafts that the museum has to offer!

Upon returning to school, we ended the day with a lunch and movie together - "Finding Nemo" to see some of our undersea animals come to life in a different way!

For more field trip photos, check out our Cedar Point Elementary Facebook page.

4th Grade

Fourth graders had some wonderful hands-on experiences with our Science Ecosystem Unit, including making food webs and food chains. Our current unit is Ocean Environments where students are learning about the geology of the ocean floor, the physical properties and movement of ocean water, and the interactions of organisms in the ocean.

We finished up our Measurement and Geometry unit in Math. Our last big unit is Multiplication and Division 2. Please make sure your child is working to memorize their multiplication facts. It is so important. Also utilize IXL through CLEVER at home to practice skills previously taught throughout the school year.

April 3 is our big fourth grade field trip to the Jamestown Settlement. We will spend the day taking in the Revolution through hands-on historical experiences, dynamic gallery exhibits, interactive films and outdoor living guided tours.

Please mark your calendars for these important dates coming up for our fourth graders:

  • Thursday, May 1 - Reading SOL part 1
  • Friday, May 2 - Reading SOL part 2
  • Thursday, May 8 - VA History SOL
  • Wednesday, May 14 - Math SOL part 1

Our fifth graders have been learning all about light in science. Recently, our students did a fun light maze challenge, using the laws of reflection and mirrors to reflect and bend beams of light through a maze! We also took prisms outside in the sun to observe the visible spectrum - white lights refract to show colors!
