The Gator Gab 25th Edition🐊
Week of March 9, 2026
Principal's Message
Happy Friday Gators,
Daylight Savings - Don't forget to set your clocks one hour ahead on Sunday. Unfortunately,, we lose an hour of sleep. Rest up on Saturday. On the other side, days become longer and more time to golf. Just saying for a friend of course!
Reporting an Absence - Check out our new online absence reporting option.
Fencing Project - Please be sure to read the latest updates on the fence project.
Retirements - This announcement comes with joy and sadness that our school clerk, who has been at Gallardo since the school opened, Lisa Cleveland, is retiring at the end of the school year. Also, our long term cafeteria manager, Kathy O'Brien will retire at the end of the school year. Thank you and congratulations to both of these amazing long time Gators. They definitely earned it. Enjoy the next chapter.
Doyal Martin, Principal
Sandra J. Gallardo Elementary School
Report an absence online now!
Good news. If your child is absent, you now have the option of reporting the absence online. Visit our homepage at https://sjge.fcusd.org/. Click on "Reporting an Absence" and complete the Google Form.
Fence Installation Updates
There is a chance the fencing will be finished by the end of next week.
The original completion date for this project is March 31st and it sounds like they might finish early! Fingers crossed....
Below is a map of the fencing project. I marked the locations of the fence line in blue and the gates in black.
Vision and Hearing screenings are scheduled for grades K, 2, & 5 on March 10 and 11. Please notify Mr. Martin in writing if you would like your student opted out by Friday, March 6th.
Lockdown
We had a lockdown drill last Tuesday. A Folsom Police Department SRO was present for the drill to provide support and feedback. The drill happened during the 4th and 5th grade lunch period. The students responded appropriately. Our teachers did a great job preparing our students by having conversations about the importance of the drill and why it was important to take it seriously. It was a good opportunity for the students to experience the drill during an unstructured part of the day. Overall, the drill went well.
Parking Lot and Staff Parking
1. Parking spots marked "STAFF ONLY" are for staff only. Please do not park in these limited number of parking spots. We have a large staff who utilizes each of those spots.
2. There are clearly marked crosswalks. Do not block them when you are picking up or dropping off students. Students and families should be able to safely use the crosswalks without having to walk around cars. Students should not be dropped off in the middle of the crosswalk as you turn into the Hug and Go Lane. Wait for the cars to clear out then pull all the way forward before unloading your kids.
A Reminder About Campus Procedures
To support a safe and orderly campus, we kindly ask that families follow our sign-in procedures when visiting. If you need to drop off a lunch, instrument, or any other item for your child, please let the office staff know. We will gladly call the classroom or ensure the item is delivered to your student.
Please do not sign in as a volunteer for the purpose of going directly to a classroom to drop something off. Doing so bypasses our safety practices, creates unmonitored movement on campus, and is a disruption to instruction. Thank you for helping us maintain a secure environment for all students and staff.

GATORS UNPLUGGED
On March 3rd, 25 parents gathered in person and virtually to talk about kids and smart phones, screens, video games, and chrome books in schools and what we can do about it. We came together to make a pact to delay smart phones as long as possible and to give our children the most play-based childhood they could have. We plan to hold another one of these meetings soon for those that could not attend- stay tuned for more details! We also created a What’s App group called “Gators Unplugged” to have a community that cheers each other on and inspires one another on this journey.
If you would like to join the community and get access to the information presented and handouts for various trackers, smart watches, and phones, please join our What’s App Group - Gators Unplugged.
