Harlandale Legacy, Harlandale Legacy,

The spring semester has been a busy time for Harlandale ISD. We’re wrapping up on major bond projects, celebrating students at citywide competitions, supporting our athletes at playoff games, and connecting with our community at several events. There’s a lot happening across our District, and I’d like to take a moment to highlight a few of those moments.

I’d like to begin by thanking everyone who helped make our 50th anniversary Cultural Arts Fair and Parade such a memorable event. The creativity in every float, the energy of our student performances and the success of our inaugural Frontier Legacy Foundation 5K all made for an incredible day. Thank you to our families, staff, volunteers and students for continuing a tradition we can all be proud of. We’re already looking forward to next year's festivities!

Audio/Video Students Field Trip Audio/Video Students Field Trip

Our Career and Technical Education programs continue to give students real-world experience that connects directly to future careers. Recently, our Audio/Video students visited the Frost Bank Center, home of the San Antonio Spurs, where they spent time with staff and got a behind-the-scenes look at live event production. They explored everything from video and audio to lighting and in-game operations, seeing firsthand how their classroom learning applies in a professional setting. Opportunities like this help students see what those careers look like and what’s possible right here in San Antonio.

San Antonio Sports All-Star Basketball Game San Antonio Sports All-Star Basketball Game

I’d like to recognize our student-athletes who represented Harlandale ISD at the San Antonio Sports All-Star Basketball Game. This event brings together top athletes from across the city, and our students showed up ready to compete. Dominick Camacho of McCollum High School and Braylon Tovar of Harlandale High School played on the boys teams, while Noelisa Espinoza, Aaliyah Mancha and Zoey Yañez represented on the girls side. A special congratulations to Aaliyah Mancha who won the 3-Point Shooting Contest, and Coach Ernest Lopez for leading Team White to a 76–72 win. We are proud of how they represented Harlandale on the city stage!

In fine arts, Harlandale High School Theatre continues to shine. Our students competed in the Bi-District UIL One Act Play Contest against schools from across the region and earned first place, advancing to the Area competition with their performance of All of You by Dylan Schifrin. Individual honors included All-Star Technician Damien Lopez, Honorable Mention All-Star Cast Marco Garcia and All-Star Cast Andrea Ramirez. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew on a great run!

As we enter the final stretch of the school year, we are looking forward to celebrating even more important milestones across our district, including middle school bridging ceremonies and upcoming graduations. These moments reflect the growth our students have shown throughout the year and the goals they are continuing to work toward. I also want to wish all of our students the very best on their STAAR exams. Stay focused, get plenty of rest and remember, you’re ready for this.

Wrapping Up Wrapping Up

Thank you for your continued support of Harlandale ISD. It is an honor to serve a community that takes such pride in its schools and in one another. As a reminder, Friday, April 24 is a student and staff holiday in observance of Battle of Flowers. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and relaxing long weekend. Happy Fiesta!

Warmly,

Gerardo Soto
