Counselor's Corner
This past month in Guidance we discussed the importance of attending school and facing challenges. The Strive for 5 (or Less) Attendance Theme was kicked off county wide. We'd love to see students in school everyday, all year! Coming soon....a new class award for the best attendance percentage. More details to come!
During October, we will be discussing body safety. On March 5, 2018, Governor Justice signed House Bill 4402, requiring that all West Virginia students, grades K-12, receive age-appropriate body safety education at least once during the school year. This legislation, HB4402, is known as Erin’s Law. We will be discussing body boundary and safety rules, identifying feelings and early warning signs, difference between good secrets and bad secrets, and identifying five safe adults they can talk to if they feel unsafe. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Ms. Schminkey, stephanie.schminkey@k12.wv.us or call 304-229-6791.
We will also be recognizing Red Ribbon Week with some special guests from the Berkeley County Recovery Center to talk about Healthy habits, coping skills and stress management.

Fun Fair Day is next Saturday!
We are still looking for volunteers to:
- Work the registration table
- Help monitor the petting zoo
- Help monitor the bounce houses
- Help monitor the children's obstacle
- Help throw color on the fun run
MRI headbands will be sold during school on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at the Fun Fair. Your student can get theirs for $2.00!
'Kiss the Animal Contest' is underway! Mrs. Frye has been entered in the contest (woohoo!!)! Mr. P is currently in the lead. The faculty staff member that has the most amount of money in their jar by October 4th will kiss an animal at 12:45 during the Fun Fair. Voting jars are located in the front of the school near the office. Who will be kissing the animal on Saturday, October 4th?!
Playground equipment has arrived and is installed! The students are excited and looking forward to exploring the new and undated pieces!

Volunteer
Come volunteer at MRI! Level 1 volunteers are those individuals who have a completed and approved background check. All chaperones for field trips must be a Level 1.
It is recommended that you consider getting your Level 1 if you plan on volunteering at school in any way. This way it's done and you should be good to go!
Want to volunteer as a mystery reader or help with a class lesson/activity? Communicate with your child's teacher to schedule a time to be here!
Absence Note
Did you send a note yet?
Don't forget to submit your child's absence note.
