HMS is Feeling Thankful

Recently our Student Council organized an opportunity for students to share their thanks and appreciation for the many talented and dedicated faculty members that we have here at HMS. During lunches, students were invited to write a message thanking their teachers, to be displayed outside the cafeteria. The response was so great that the Student Council ran out of leaves after only a few days!

While we are on the subject of gratitude, we at HMS are so thankful to have such a kind, caring, supportive community of students and families to work with!

We hope you have a great Thanksgiving break!

Thank you and Best Wishes, Officer Ramsey!

Today, November 21, marks the end of an era at HMS as we wish Officer Rob Ramsey all the best in his retirement!

Since 2004, Officer Ramsey has been a fixture here at HMS, working with thousands of students in his role as our grade six D.A.R.E. instructor, and also as our School Resource Officer.

Beyond his work in the classroom, Officer Ramsey has helped to build strong relationships between our students and families and the Hingham Police Department, which will last well into the future. One only has to look at the number of his former students who chose to follow his path and are now his colleagues in the HPD to see the power of those connections.

Please join me in extending our sincere appreciation to Officer Ramsey for his many years of service both here at HMS and in the community at large.

Thank you, Officer Ramsey, for all you have done for HMS and the Town of Hingham! You will be missed!

. . . And Welcome Aboard, Officer Sullivan!

At the same time, we want to welcome Officer Jerry Sullivan to HMS.

A fixture of the Hingham Community, having worked with many of our students previously in coaching and leadership roles outside of the school, we are very excited to have Officer Sullivan join our Hingham Middle School faculty.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Officer Sullivan!

HMS Spirit Week Reminder

As a reminder, next week will be Spirit Week at HMS, with dress-up themes and special activities for our students as we prepare for our Thanksgiving Break.

Dress-up Themes

Monday, November 24

  • Grade Six Dress Up Theme - The Outsiders. Students can choose to dress as either a "Greaser" or a "Soc".
  • Grades Seven and Eight Dress Up Theme - "Tacky Tourist Day". Find your "tackiest" vacation clothing.

Tuesday, November 25
  • All Grades Dress Up Theme - Mismatch Day. Anything goes! Stripes and polka dots! Plaids and floral prints! One dress shoe and one sneaker! The more mismatched the better!

Wednesday, November 26

  • All Grades Dress Up Theme - Team Shirt Day. Show your school and team spirit by wearing your new team t-shirt.

In addition to these fun dress-up themes, we'll have a variety of activities and events for our students, like "Spot the Turkeys", where students need to find the three "turkeys" in our building.

We hope our students enjoy these special events!

HMS is Here to Help

We understand that making ends meet can be difficult for some families in our HPS community. Therefore, we want to let you know that there are individuals in each of our schools who are ready to provide information and assistance. Resources may be available to help families in times of financial need or other challenging situations. Our particular area of outreach is for food support for the upcoming holidays.

Please don’t hesitate to contact an administrator, the school nurse, or counseling personnel at your child's school if you are in need of food support for the holidays. Rest assured that your request will be managed in a way that respects your rights to confidentiality.

HMS Food Drive Continues!

Hingham Middle School will be participating in a school-wide food drive. The Hingham Food Pantry is a non-profit run by volunteers. It serves families and individuals in the Hingham community who face food insecurity. Your donations help fill the pantry’s shelves, providing meals and comfort to those in need.

They are looking for the following donations:

Mac & Cheese, Campbell’s Soups, Mashed or Scalloped Potatoes, Healthy Cold Cereal, Crackers, Boxes of Granola Bars, Brownie or Cookie Mix

Students can bring in donations to their homeroom teacher until November 26th. The homeroom that collects the most donations will win a prize!

There will be no HMS Connection next week due to the holiday. There will be no HMS Connection next week due to the holiday.

Food Support for Families and Free and Reduced Lunch Program

While SNAP benefits are resuming, we still want to assure you that free, nutritious breakfast and lunch will continue to be available to all students each school day. You can view our menus here.

Food security resources are available, including Project Bread's FoodSource Hotline, https://projectbread.org/foodsource-hotline (1-800-645-8333). FoodSource hotline counselors, in 180 languages, can help families find food assistance through other sources such as the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program and local food pantries. The Hingham Food Pantry is located at Second Parish Church on 685 Main Street (781) 740-8180.

Want to help? Consider donating unopened, non-perishable, and unexpired foods.

Donations can be made at the Hingham Food Pantry, as well as Stop & Shop, Sotheby's, Jack Conway, and Coldwell Banker.

Free and Reduced Lunch Program

Although school meals are free, we encourage families to still apply for meal benefits.

Families can apply at any time throughout the school year, should their household situation change. If you think you might qualify, this could provide access to additional benefits within the district. Applications can be completed online at schoolcafe.com, or you can find hard copies on our Food services site or the district's food service page. For a mailed application, please contact Marisalyn Biagini at mbiagini@hinghamschools.org.

Funky Feet Presents . . .

Hingham Recreation’s own Funky Feet School of Dance will perform “The Funky Nutcracker” on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 4:30 PM at Hingham Middle School.

Jenn Feeney and Krissy Litchfield, childhood dancers and best friends, have rewritten and choreographed the traditional Nutcracker with a joyful twist, inviting students to experience this beloved tradition without the pressure cooker of constant rehearsals. With Jazz, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Tap, and Classical Ballet woven into the story, dancers get to explore new styles while bringing a fresh twist to a timeless tale.

This year, 130 dancers from Hingham and surrounding communities, ages 2 to 18, will take the stage—as they leap into brand-new scenes, dream roles, and surprises. From Clara and Sugar Plum Fairies to tiny hip-hoppers grooving through the Land of Sweets, there’s room for everyone to shine. Over half the cast attends Hingham Middle School, and ten dancers will be presented with tiaras for five consecutive years of participation.

Please join us for the Nutcracker you know and love… just with a little extra funk by going to tututix.com to purchase tickets.
