October Count Surprises & Prizes!

The window has officially opened! Every student who was at school last Thursday received a Dress of Choice coupon. Students who are in attendance today are getting popsicles during their lunch recess. Stay tuned and keep showing up! Administration has more surprises to come until the window closes on Thursday, October 8th.

Why October Count Matters to Aurora Academy

Each fall, Colorado schools participate in an official process called October Count. This process verifies the students who are enrolled in and receiving educational services from each public school.

October Count is especially important for charter schools like Aurora Academy. As a public charter school, we do not charge tuition, and much of our operating revenue is connected to the students we serve. Our verified enrollment helps determine the funding available for teachers and staff, classroom materials, technology, student support services, safety, and daily school operations.

Colorado’s newer school funding formula considers more than the total number of students enrolled. It also recognizes the needs of the students being served, including multilingual learners, students receiving special education services, and students who meet the state’s at-risk criteria. Accurate enrollment information is therefore essential.

How families can help:

Please make every effort to have your child attend school on October Count Day and throughout the count window.
If your child is ill, please keep them home and notify the school through our regular attendance process. A documented absence does not automatically prevent a student from being counted.
Refer a friend or family member to enroll their child(ren).

October Count does not create “extra money” for the school, nor is it based only on one day of perfect attendance. It provides the state with an accurate picture of the students we are responsible for educating. That information helps ensure Aurora Academy receives the appropriate public funding to serve our students throughout the school year.

Here’s how you can help:

Refer a friend to AACS who might benefit from our unique academic approach and community.
When your referral enrolls their child, your family will be entered to win a prize!

Community Eligibility Form

We still have 152 students (110 families) whose parents have not yet completed this form. Under the new Colorado school funding formula, this is how we qualify for some of the revenue that is distributed to us from the district. Every grade level still needs apps completed. If you haven't completed this form, please do so today.

Fun Run Update

Aurora Academy Families, what an amazing fun run we had! Thank you to everyone who came out and cheered on the runners! Your students ran 10,090 laps which equals 630 miles! That’ s like running from Aurora Academy to Oklahoma City!

Book Fair Update!

Collectively, we sold around $5800 worth of books, stationary, and other assorted plastic doodads. Thank you families for helping our students increase their book collection! We couldn’t have made these sales without your efforts! A huge shoutout to our Librarian Mr. Bilous to ensure we keep books in students hands! THANK YOU!
