Message from Nicole Pease, Principal Teacher at DCS
Happy Friday Families, it has been such a fun week at DCS. As it has been the first and only 5 day week in November it has also been long! Students have been learning about US Symbols, the Greek Alphabet with Henry Walters, a variety of new movement games in PE and so much more! Today included our Monthly Community Lunch at which many parents joined us, and ended with a precious Kindergarten through Second Grade parade which was the culmination of their learning about the history of the Macy's Day Parade. This study included Police Chief Suokko reading the book "Balloons Over Broadway." The students created their own "floats" that they carried in the parade.
I was able to go out to recess and watch the pure joy students experience when they learn how to use a pogo stick! Thanks to the Wood's for bringing this wonderful skill back to DCS with their purchase of new and definitely improved equipment!
Staff and students have been thinking about all the things they are thankful for in anticipation of the Thanksgiving Break. DCS Staff are so thankful for the supportive community in which we work and hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with family, friends, and food. Take care, Nicole
Information from the School Nurse
Medications at School
Over The Counter (OTC)
Over the counter medications for individual students must be delivered by an adult in a new, unopened container. The adult must provide written permission for the medication to the school nurse. Forms are available at DCS. Students are not allowed to carry any OTC medications with them at school including cough drops.
Prescription
If a student is prescribed medication to be taken while at school, please contact DCS. The medication must be provided by an adult in the original container. A written order from the licensed healthcare provider can be hand delivered or faxed to the school. Written parental permission is also needed.
Illness
Students with a fever of 100 degrees or higher, vomiting, and/or diarrhea must stay home from school until they are at least 24 hours free of these symptoms without the use of symptom-reducing medication. When notifying the school of an absence, please let us know what the symptoms are so we can keep track of what’s going around. The district follows current CDC guidance related to students who have tested positive for or been exposed to COVID. Please consult the CDC website for more information.
