Lynx Leadership Message Lynx Leadership Message

Learning is exciting at Forest Grove!

All this week we had incredible learning happening across classrooms and grade levels. Some highlights were:

French Immersion students started Think Fast Comedy improv lessons to support building high quality French vocabulary with Mat Mailandt. This residency will continue for the next two weeks. All K-9 French Immersion students will participate. What fun!

Our Grade 4 students buddied up with the Grade 8 foods class to bake fresh apple crisp. It was inspiring to watch the older students patiently teach the younger students how to peel apples, measure ingredients and read recipes.

Our Grade 7 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) option class were testing their DIY balloon powered cars in the Atrium this afternoon. There were some interesting designs!

Finally, our Grade 8 band students joined our kindergarten music class to help them learn how to keep a beat and drummed the 7 Nation Army song on buckets together.

We are so proud of the culture that is growing at our new school where we help each other and learn together. Go, Lynx!

The "Association pour la recherche en neuroéducation" (ARN) recently published an interesting article about Artificial Intelligence and why we are still smarter than machines.

"From writing songs to giving investment advice to explaining complex physical concepts, artificial intelligence seems capable of doing it all. But do these feats mean that computers have surpassed human capabilities?

In this short video, Ori Ossmy, a neuroscientist at Birkbeck, University of London, invites us to reconsider this idea. He explains that the human brain learns by interacting with a rich and changing environment starting in early childhood. This ability to adapt, fueled by diverse experiences and interactions with the world, gives humans a significant advantage over current artificial intelligence systems." Thus, we should continue what we are doing: meaningful interactions, learning, using our senses and cognitive abilities to problem-solve. https://www.bbc.com/reel/video/p0fc9tlx/watch

Nous vous souhaitons une excellente fin de semaine.

Halloween is quickly approaching and it's time to update you on our Halloween expectations at Forest Grove.

Students across all grade levels are welcome to wear costumes. As we are home to students aged 5 to 15, we need to ensure that costumes are appropriate for a G-rated audience. We ask that you help us in the following ways:

  • avoid gory or grotesque costumes (remember we have 5 year olds on site!)
  • do not wear overly sexual or drug-related costumes
  • leave weapons at home (they can scare others or result in dangerous playfighting)
  • avoid masks that cover the entire face (for security reasons, we need to be able to identify all students)

Also, please remember we are a nut aware facility so we ask that you keep all nut products at home.

We will send information about the Halloween parade on October 30 in the afternoon in next week's Lowdown. Save the date!

Take Our Kids to Work Day - November 4 Take Our Kids to Work Day - November 4

With the theme “Different Perspective, Shared Direction,” Take Our Kids to Work Day 2026 recognizes the importance of expanding horizons and embracing diverse career paths. Take our Kids to Work Day provides Grade 9 students with an opportunity to be exposed to the world of work, an important aspect of career planning. Students will participate by job shadowing someone at work for the day, or participating in activities planned at the school. Families are responsible for connecting their student with a job shadow opportunity; often this is with a family member or family friend. Grade 9 families will be sent information on how to participate in the coming weeks. Now is a great time to start looking for a job shadow opportunity! Learn more
