6th Grade Panther Update
What is happening this month in our academic classrooms?
ELA
In March, students have been wrapping up their Esperanza Rising book groups. After reading the final chapter, students took one last comprehension check. They are now finalizing their last writing assignment about the novel. Students are writing a summary on Esperanza Rising, and are specifically focusing on Esperanza’s change throughout the novel. Next up, we will be moving into an Argument unit. Hofmann - McDonough - Vincent - Martens
MATH
Happy March! At the start of the month, students completed their Module 6 Test. They then transitioned to Module 2, which focuses on Fractions, Decimals, and Percents. We will be pausing our work on Module 2 to review key concepts in preparation for the Forward Test, scheduled after Spring Break. Following the assessment, we will resume Module 2 and continue as planned. Lutzke - Hranicka - Watke
Science
In science, we have been learning about the phases of the moon. Looking at how the moon’s orbit around the Earth and the angle to the sun can help us understand and predict the moon’s phases. Next, we will look at the sun. We will look at how the Earth’s tilt and orbit affects the amount of sunlight we get and our seasons. Kulow - Hranicka
Social Studies
In March, students wrapped up their Citizenship Unit. Students took a final test at the end of the unit. Currently, students are focusing on the forms of government. Students have been practicing with vocabulary to understand the different types of government. This unit will continue through Spring Break.
