Student Attendance
To avoid these negative consequences of missing school, parents should set high expectations for regular school attendance with their children at the earliest ages possible. It’s important for parents to know that it is never too late be set a good example. Although frequently absent children will undoubtedly be suffering negative impacts, parents can show that attendance is important and establish high expectations for school attendance at any age; the earlier the better!

ParentSquare
We are excited to announce that we will implement a new form of school-to-home communication in Lake Orion Community Schools called ParentSquare, debuting district-wide this summer.
This unified communications platform, which will replace SchoolMessenger, is designed to keep parents and guardians informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with LOCS. Parent-staff communication will occur within the website and/or app, depending on the parent’s preference.
A few current LOCS schools are currently piloting the program and learning the ins and outs. The rest of the district will begin using the program in mid-June, following the end of the current school year.
There will be no work for families to “join” the new platform as all families will be automatically connected, using their current profile information. For now, we are just sharing an exciting update ahead.
LOCS will send more specific information about the platform near the end of the school year.
Distinguished Dragon Staff Recognition
Lake Orion Community Schools is launching a program in 2023-24 to recognize LOCS staff members for their excellence.
The intent of the Distinguished Dragon program is to ensure that staff members who go above and beyond their regular duties are appreciated. The additional effort or support can range from helping an individual to helping a group or any effort that seems worthy of praise.
The staff member can be nominated by a student, parent, community member or a colleague by completing the form at Distinguished Dragon Submission
We ask for the submitter's name and contact information to follow up with specific questions if necessary. Please make sure to select the appropriate school/department form so the message is routed in the proper direction.
Please complete the form entirely so the individual can be appropriately honored for their contributions.
