Dear Duval Families!

We began September playing 50s music each morning, and having fun trying to find out more about the early days of the Regal Street (Park) School. If you have any 50s memorabilia, let us know as we'd love to share some with today's Duval Dolphins.

We appreciate everyone's concerns and support during the search for a missing teenager last week. Luckily, he was found. As always, we will continue to communicate with families as much as possible, in partnership with and within the guidelines of the district and Whitman PD.

This week, we begin to transition from "getting to know you" to "getting down to work." One of our goals this year is to promote higher order thinking skills through more complex questions, projects, and lessons. We BELIEVE in the abilities of each child and having them stretch to their maximum potential.

As mentioned below, this week is the first PTO meeting. PTO is an invaluable partner in enriching the programs at Duval, and they ALWAYS need the ideas and volunteerism of community members. We hope you can make the meeting on Tuesday evening in the library. If not, please reach out to the PTO to let them if and when you can help out.

This Week's Weather: Nice and Cool!

The Duval School Council is a group of 3 parents, 3 staff members, a community member, and the Principal, who work together to ensure that Duval is at its best. We write and follow School Improvement Plans which are based on input from students, staff, and parents each year.

We have one opening for a parent on School Council this year. Please email Dr. M ASAP if you are interested. We meet once a month in the afternoon, usually remotely to make it easier. If we have more than one person interested, we will hold a vote at the PTO meeting on Tuesday.

Please remember to send in a picture of your child for our big bulletin board.

Thanks for helping us all get used to the routines. Please remember that "Walkers" go out Door 24 and either walk/bike all the way home, or are met by an older person at the crosswalk. There is NO parking on Regal Street.

Parent Pick Up- Yellow placards MUST be in cars by Friday. Please email allison.brandon@whrsd.org if you don't have one yet.

Hi Duval Families!

We are getting ready for our first PTO meeting and hope to see lots of new (and returning!) faces.

Tuesday 9/9 7p- PTO meeting in the Duval library. Childcare is provided for Duval students by the Whitman-Hanson National Honor Society. Our first meeting of the year is a great chance to hear all about who we are, what we do, and what is coming up for events at Duval. We will also cover the calendar for this year as well as the budget. It’s a great place to share your ideas and learn how to be involved!

Monday 9/15 3-9p- We are SO excited to share a new fundraising opportunity this year. We will be partnering with Heidi’s Hollow in Hanson. Come by anytime from 3-9 and a portion of the sales will come right back to Duval. We are so grateful to them for sharing this opportunity and we are hoping for an amazing Dolphin showing! From 4:30-5:30pm you could even have your ice cream scooped by…. Dr Marcus or Ms Craig! So come by, say hello and be sure to take some photos.

We are also still selling Duval merch but have limited sizes remaining. If you’d like to make an order email us (duvalpto@gmail.com) with your selection, student and class and we’ll have it sent home with your student.

Instrument Rental Night will be held on Wednesday, September 10th at 6:30pm in the Whitman Middle School Cafeteria. Please use the Google Form to sign up for band. Only students who are entered on the google form will be scheduled into band lessons at Duval.
