Oakhurst Weekly
From the Principal
Oakhurst Families,
We love "ready to learn" energy, but please remember that our doors don’t open until 8:00 AM. Since the morning frost has officially melted, we will no longer be opening the doors early. For the safety of our scholars, please do not leave students unattended at the entrances before the doors open. Thanks for being part of our safety team!
Announcements
Welcome, Nurse Welsh!
In case you missed our school health team staff update in last week's newsletter, Nurse Jackson is now taking care of the Bulldogs at Beacon Hill Middle School, and we have welcomed Shanya Welsh to our school community.
For any health-related questions, please feel free to email her at shanya.welsh@csdecatur.net.
Poetry Submissions are Being Accepted for Young American Poetry Digest
We've been talking about poetry in the library a lot this year, and now we get to write our own! If your Oakhurst student would like to submit poetry for consideration in this year's Young American Poetry Digest, click here to watch a video with all of the details and helpful information for poetry writing!
Submissions for the digest are due to Ms. G by March 20th.
(Even if your student doesn't want to submit poetry for the digest, the link will take you to great K-2 poetry resources you can access and use as family literacy activities!)
Join us on Saturday, March 14th at 8:30am to celebrate our physical, social, and mental/emotional wellness.
All Oakhurst students have been participating in iRUN during their physical education class. At the end of iRUN, the Oakhurst community is encouraged to support the Decatur Education Foundation’s Tour Decatur 1-mile fun run or 5k. Registration fees from this event are used to support City Schools of Decatur teachers and students through the Decatur Education Foundation. For more information about Decatur Education Foundation and to register for Tour deCatur, visit www.tourdecatur.com.

8:30 am 1-Mile Fun Run & Bulldog Jog begins
9:15 am 5K Road Race begins

Food Insecurity Request Form
Oakhurst families, please complete and submit this food insecurity request form if your student is experiencing food insecurity within the home and is in need of some supplemental weekend snacks.
The Decatur Education Foundation supplies Oakhurst with snack bags for any student in need. This request form will go directly to our school counselor, Ms. King, and she will send home a snack bag with your student every Friday. Please go through each week's snack bag to remove any snack you may not want your child to have due to allergy concerns, etc.

🤩 AUCTION HIGHLIGHTS 🤩
It was an incredible night of generosity and fun at last Friday’s Give-A-Hoot Auction at the Historic DeKalb Courthouse. We set an ambitious goal of $50,000 and our families, teachers, leaders and community partners turned out BIG TIME to raise more than $69,000! 🎉
A big thanks to our incredible Auction Committee, volunteers, sponsors and Oakhurst families and staff for making this such a great event. 💛
