Social Media Presence and Appropriate Use

We are asking for your help in speaking with your child about the importance of maintaining a positive and responsible presence on social media.

We know that social media can be a valuable way for students to communicate and express themselves, but it is extremely important for students to understand that what they post, share, or comment on can have lasting consequences. Online actions can impact friendships, school climate, athletic and extracurricular opportunities, college admissions, and future professional opportunities.

We have also seen instances in which social media posts have reflected negatively on individuals, groups, and our school community. We want East High School to be a place where all students feel respected, welcomed, and supported. Students should understand that their online behavior can affect not only their own reputation, but also how others view the school community.

We encourage families to have regular conversations about digital citizenship. Simple questions such as "Would I be comfortable if my family, teachers, future employer, or college admissions officer saw this?" can help students make thoughtful decisions online.

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students use social media in ways that reflect positively on themselves and the East community.

STUDENT BEHAVIOR: Every East High School student is an ambassador for our school community. Whether attending a game at home, away, or posting on social media, we expect all students to demonstrate the highest standards of behavior and sportsmanship. Families, please partner with us to reinforce these expectations. Our students represent East wherever they go.

SUPPORT OUR TEAMS: WCASD High School Students are FREE to all HOME events this Fall Season, EXCEPT FOR HOME FOOTBALL GAMES.

Activities Activities

The Annual EHS Activity Fair was held on Tuesday, September 22 during Viking Block and all lunch periods. This event gave students the opportunity to explore the many clubs, activities, and organizations available at East. Students visited tables, met student leaders and advisors, and learned how to get involved in clubs and organizations. Getting connected to activities is one of the best ways for students to build relationships, develop leadership skills, and make the most of their high school experience.

Marching Band

On September 19th, the Marching Vikings competed against other schools at Rustin High School. Our band and guard members represented East well and scored a 71.2 A score above 70 is notable for a first competition. And to top it off, East won Best Percussion. Congratulations to director Chris Orlando, the staff and all the talented and dedicated students for this accomplishment! (Photo Credit: Chris Maher, Corpsreps Photography)

National Merit Commended Students

East is proud to recognize several members of the Class of 2027 who have been named National Merit Commended Students through the National Merit Scholarship Program. This distinction is awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and score among the top-performing students nationwide on the PSAT/NMSQT.

Being named a Commended Student is a significant accomplishment that reflects years of dedication and commitment to learning. While Commended Students do not continue in the National Merit Scholarship competition, they are recognized nationally for their outstanding academic potential and are among a select group of students who have achieved a remarkable level of success. We congratulate these students on this well-deserved honor and look forward to seeing the many ways they will continue to excel both at East and beyond.

We make it a priority at East to help future teachers develop their craft. Each semester, we host student teachers and give them the opportunity to work with our East teachers and students. Lakeya Gilliam is working with student teacher, Tarra Love, this fall. Ms. Love is working with students on East Excellence competencies, and last month, the focus was on Support. Check out the work that she inspired her students to create to help them understand the importance of asking for help when needed while also helping others.

Safety Safety

The safety of our students, staff, and families depends on every member of our school community doing their part. As a reminder, students should always drive slowly and cautiously through the school parking lot during all hours of the school day, including before and after school. Staff are encouraged to use designated crosswalks when walking from their car into the building, and parents should remain alert and attentive during morning drop-off. The parking lot is one of the busiest areas of our campus, with vehicles and pedestrians sharing the same space. A little extra patience and courtesy can go a long way in preventing accidents. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe campus.

October 15 Modified Schedule: PSAT & Student Wellness Programming

On Thursday 10/15, EHS will operate on a modified schedule to accommodate PSAT testing and student wellness programming. From 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., students will participate in either the PSAT or QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training. Sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT in their assigned Viking Block bases, while freshmen will participate in QPR programming facilitated by the Counseling Department. Seniors will have a late arrival and should report to school in time for the start of the instructional day.

The regular school day will begin with 4th period, and we will follow a schedule that includes Periods 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. There will be no Viking Block that day. Students who normally ride the bus and are unable to arrive later in the morning will be accommodated in a supervised location at school. Additional details and reminders will be shared with students and families as October 15 approaches.
