Happy New Year

Welcome back, students, to the start of the second semester and a brand new year in 2024! I hope you had a restful break and are feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on new challenges. As we embark on this next chapter together, I encourage each and every one of you to step out of your comfort zones and try new things. Whether it's joining a new club, taking up a new hobby, or exploring a different subject, this is the perfect time to expand your horizons and discover new passions. Remember, growth happens outside of our comfort zones, so embrace the opportunities that come your way and make the most of them.

In addition to trying new things, let's also make it a point to show kindness and compassion towards one another. The world can sometimes be a challenging place, but by practicing empathy and understanding, we can create a supportive and inclusive community within our school. Small acts of kindness can have a big impact, so let's make it a goal to uplift and support each other throughout this semester. Whether it's offering a helping hand to a struggling classmate or simply being a good listener, let's strive to make our school a place where everyone feels valued and appreciated.

As we begin this new semester and year, let's approach it with a sense of excitement, curiosity, and a commitment to making a positive difference. Together, we can make this semester one filled with growth, kindness, and memorable experiences. Welcome back, and let's make 2024 a year to remember!

Happy New Year!

Sublimation Printer Addition

We now have added a sublimation printer and supplies to our Design Maker Area in the LC.

I am very excited to offer this to our student body. If you are not familiar with sublimated design, boy are you in for a treat! Adding this element to existing machines will be a real game changer.

A few things to remember:

1- I have a limited amount of supplies. Before planning your project, stop by and see what options are available. You will need to supply the items that I do not stock.

2- The Design Maker Station is available during school hours.

3 - This printer is an addition to our Cricut Maker Machine. Please read over the information about it before planning a design.

4 - As always, I am here to help you! If you have questions, please let me know how I can assist.

January Book/Series Feature

I have been pleasantly surprised at the number of students that have come in to check out our book selection! The addition of 200 titles on our shelves has been great.

This month I’d like to spotlight the anthology series A Twisted Tale.

A Twisted Tale is an anthology series of books based

around various “what-if” spins on classic animated Disney

and Pixarfilms. They are written by Liz Braswell, Jen Calonita,

Elizabeth Lim, Farrah Rochon, and Mari Mancusi. There are

currently 16 books and one anthology, with four more set to

be released between 2024 and 2025, and a graphic novel

released in 2023 with another one on the way.

We have had several to come in and check books in this series out. The majority have had great reviews and asked for another title in the series. Come check it out for yourself!

I am currently working on another book order for our Library. If you have any titles that you’d like to see added, please use this form to send in suggestions. Be prepared to give a review of the book !

One quick reminder, please don't forget to sign in when you enter the LC. This sign in book is a way for me to help you. It gives me an idea of who comes in during the day and what the purpose for the visit is. It also is an easy way for me to verify your visit when a teacher ask me if you came into the library.

New Makerspace

The new installation of our Cricut Maker Machine and accessories is now available for you to use. The following guidelines apply:

Go to Cricut.com and create your own account using your personal email. Using this account, you can design a project.

You can then come to the LC, log on to your account either using one of our computers or your Cricut App on your phone and use our Cricut and supplies to create your design.

The Cricut Maker will operate on a first come/first serve basis. Check with Mrs. Brewer or the LC Aides if you have questions about use. If you do not have your own account, you can use a generic account that has been created for the SSHS LC.

We do have a heat press! Oh yes, you can make t-shirts, bags, etc... However, the LC will NOT provide the t-shirt or bag. We do have a limited supply of paper and vynl opitons for you to use. Make sure you check out our selection and if you don't see what you need, be sure to bring it with you when you come.

Check It Out!

Interested in trying the Cricut Makerspace but just unsure about it… Check out the link below and explore a little. If you want to give it a try, come see me in the LC and let’s get started on a design project!
