OMS PRIDE
It has been a great start to the school year at OMS! Students and staff are settling into new routines and schedules, getting to know each other, and digging into curriculum.
The PRIDE program is up and running and staff have given out over 282 electronic PRIDE awards to students. As a parent, you will receive an email notification when your child has received a PRIDE award including why the award was given. Each Monday or first day of the school week, two students are randomly selected from each grade level who earned a PRIDE award from the week prior to receive a special prize in the office.

NATIONAL BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH
October is National Bullying Prevention Month!
How does OMS help to prevent bullying behavior?
Advisory: Developmental Designs is a uniform framework we utilize in order to help students learn and understand how to handle situations where unkind words and actions are witnessed.
Social Emotional Learning: We directly teach students how to be self-aware, socially-aware, build relationship skills, make responsible decisions, and practice self-management skills.
Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS): Students are recognized and rewarded for behaviors and choices that positively impact our learning environment. We select two students from each grade weekly to receive special awards and recognize grade level students of the quarter.
Restorative Practices: When students have a difficult time with each other, we seek to repair harm and to create an agreement/plan moving forward to support one another in our learning environment.
Mentoring: Under the supervision of a staff member, OHS students meet with OMS learners to build connections and provide a positive role model.
Parent Communication: The staff at OMS value a strong partnership with families. We seek to keep open lines of communication and make sure parents are informed. Middle school is a time where emotions can sometimes become dysregulated, perceptions can be unique, and kids can make mistakes they will have the opportunity to grow from.

OMS DAILY SCHEDULE 25-26
5TH GRADE COOKIE DOUGH FUNDRAISER
The 5th grade cookie dough fundraiser will take place October 1st through the 12th. Money raised during this fundraiser is used to support student field trip opportunities. All orders and money should be turned in on Monday, October 13th. The cookie dough delivery/pick up will be on Wednesday, November 12th.
GRADING & REPORT CARDS
OMS students do not receive traditional letter grades (A-F) in their classes or on their report cards. They are scored on a 1-3.5 scale for each content standard. The online report card will provide a clear picture of what your child is learning and where your child is in the learning process based on Wisconsin Standards. This process is used in grades 4K-8.
You will have online access to a report card at the end of each Quarter. Detailed grades with specific assignments and assessments listed will be located in Schoology.
COMMUNICATION
Family Access/Student Access: Family Access and Student Access are web-based information and communication tools designed to provide parents/students with instant access to their school information from any place at any time. Middle school parents will be able to view the following for their children: attendance, class schedules, food service account details and balances, students’ address information, emergency contact information, immunization records, grades, and report cards.
In an effort to keep you more informed, we use email as a communication tool often. Please be sure your email is up-to-date. You can change/update or add email accounts on your own or call the office. Message Center allows teachers and administrators to post information to inform parents about their child, school, and upcoming classroom events. We use Schoology as the main form of academic communication between parents and teachers and students and teachers.
BUILDING ENTRANCE & EXIT
All vehicles either dropping off or picking up students should go to the FRONT doors only!
*After School: Please form two lines in front of the school and continue moving forward (similar to an airport drop off). If those lines fill, please loop around to the right, toward the high school lot and wait until it is clear to cross. Once buses are ready to depart, they have the right of way. See picture below.
Pool Doors = Buses ONLY: Please help keep our students safe and buses on time by staying away from the pool doors with any vehicle.
Secured Entrances: Our main entrance will be the only entry point after the doors lock in the morning. We have a camera and buzzer system that allows us to see who is requesting access to the building. After you use the buzzer, you will need to state your name and reason for entering the building. Once allowed in, you will be in a secured office where you will be asked to sign in. You may be asked to provide a form of photo identification.
Pick Up Routine:
Cars = (white lines) Form two lines driving forward to keep the lines moving. Please stay where the white lines are.
Buses: = (yellow lines) Please do not park or obstruct the line of buses

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
BENEFITS of school attendance
We need your children here at school! Consistent school attendance provides many benefits for your child’s life, including:
Structure & Routine: When your child regularly engages in the same activities, they will be more likely to develop structure. This structure instills a sense of time management that will be useful in many avenues of their life.
Academics: Students who regularly attend class are more likely to achieve higher reading and math levels than students who don’t. Learners are more likely to keep up with daily assignments, develop stronger language and vocabulary skills, and be better prepared academically.
Social Skills: Children participate in many social situations that are vital for understanding the world around them. Socializing with peers helps them understand social cues, social etiquette, and how to express their thoughts in a constructive way.
The Osceola School District assists you with tracking your child’s attendance by sending notification letters when your child hits the thresholds of being absent 5 and 10 days. If your child hits the 10 day mark, we ask for a doctor's note for further absences. Our counselors work together with families to support students being in school. Every day counts!
The Osceola School District uses an efficient student absence reporting system called SafeArrivals. This system reduces the time it takes to verify student attendance, making it easy for you to report your child's absence. Below is a link with information on reporting an absence.

OMS PRIDE
PRIDE is a framework of expectations used to create a safe and nurturing learning environment for students and staff at OMS. Students are taught and reminded of the acronym throughout their day in the hallways, lunchroom, and classrooms of the school. The desire is to use this system to recognize positive behaviors benefiting the learning environment and to limit less desirable minor behaviors which have a negative impact on the learning community. Beliefs associated with the PRIDE framework include:
- Behavior is a form of communication.
- OMS will set up learners for success by teaching and modeling expected behaviors with opportunities for students to practice behavior and receive feedback.
- Relationships are essential in creating a safe and positive school environment for each unique learner.
- Appropriately documenting student behavior data (both desirable and undesirable) helps guide decisions and practices for individual students and the school.
- OMS staff members are consistent in how they encourage expected behavior and discourage undesired behavior while valuing each individual student.
